The Manager, Indirect Tax, is responsible for leading and overseeing sales and use tax audits, as well as real property tax appeals, while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local tax

regulations. This role plays a pivotal part in the broader tax function by managing key processes and mentoring team members to deliver accurate assessments and meet critical deadlines. The ideal

candidate will demonstrate strong analytical capabilities through the performance of complex tax calculations and in-depth research, while also reviewing the work of accountants for quality and

accuracy. In addition to operational excellence, this role is expected to provide strategic direction and leadership, fostering a high-performing, collaborative team environment that supports the company's financial and compliance goals.

What you will do

  • Regularly engage with government officials in support of audits, litigation, appeals, and related matters to ensure Lowe's remains fully compliant with all applicable tax regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Effectively communicate with senior leadership to provide timely updates on team progress, challenges, responsibilities, audit and return reviews, and key research insights, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, policies, and operational standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all day-to-day communications with external sales & use tax auditors, ensuring professional, accurate, and timely information exchange.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of three individual contributors, promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
  • Oversee the strategic allocation of team resources to ensure the timely and accurate completion of sales and use tax audits, proactively mitigating the risk of additional interest and penalties through effective planning and execution.
  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with internal teams to effectively gather and analyze supporting documentation that substantiates taxability decisions.
  • Drive process improvements aimed at reducing error rates and enhancing data integrity, ultimately contributing to lower audit assessments and improved compliance outcomes.
  • Lead efforts to implement corrective actions that enhance compliance and reduce future audit exposure.
  • Conduct the initial review of all audit workpapers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain quarterly audit accrual workpapers to accurately reflect potential sales & use tax liabilities, supporting timely and compliant financial reporting.
  • Collaborates with external auditors and government representatives to ensure audits and assessments are completed accurately and efficiently, including coordinating schedules and facilitating meetings to support successful review and resolution.
  • Provides effective leadership and guidance to audit staff, offering training, oversight, and support on complex assignments, while managing appropriate escalations to maintain quality and compliance.
  • Partners cross-functionally with departments such as Accounting, Treasury, and IT to gather data, exchange information, and resolve inquiries; also engages with internal and external financial stakeholders to ensure alignment and support.
  • Supports the administration of tax software systems, ensuring functionality and compliance, while actively participating in Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) oversight activities to maintain control integrity across systems and processes.
  • Conducts thorough research on changes in federal, state, and local tax regulations, evaluates their impact on the organization, and ensures accurate adjustments to tax-related expenses and payments.
  • Champions a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence by encouraging innovation, streamlining processes, and promoting a high-performing team environment.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance and 6 Years Tax and/or accounting experience (public or private). *Master's in accounting or tax can be substituted for experience

• 2 years' experience leading a team and/or managing others with direct and indirect reports

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree Accounting, Tax, CPA, or MBA and 6 Years Corporate tax experience
