AI Engineer, Undergraduate Internship
Your Impact
At Lowe's, our engineering teams are working on the development of an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solution, assisting with various machine learning (ML) models, including deep learning (DL) frameworks and large language models (LLMs). They apply foundational knowledge to help optimize model performance, support AI solutions, assist in developing necessary tools and frameworks, and contribute towards accelerating the development of AI-driven products while gaining valuable hands-on experience and mentorship.
This role has potential for conversion after graduation into a full-time, entry-level position as part of Lowe's Launchpad program for those that successfully complete their internship and required education. Lowe's Launchpad is a rotational opportunity designed to help emerging technologists strengthen their tech skills, engage with tech leaders, and learn more about Lowe's culture while advancing their career. Successful completion of this program could result in final placement in just 14-months.
What You Will Learn
As an AI Engineer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience with real-world projects while building your technical and professional skills. Throughout the internship, you can expect to:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of an AI platform, ensuring it meets functional requirements and performance standards.
- Participate in the full lifecycle of AI platform development from ideation and prototyping to testing, deployment, and monitoring.
- Contribute to the integration of AI capabilities into products and platforms, helping ensure smooth implementation and functionality.
- Engage in peer code reviews, learn directly from senior AI engineers, and follow established best practices in AI development.
- Stay current on the latest AI technologies and frameworks, suggesting incremental improvements to enhance existing systems.
- Support the implementation of security and compliance measures in AI development, ensuring alignment with company policies and industry standards.
Summer Internship Program

Our 10-week summer internship program (May 26th - July 31st) immerses you in real-world retail operations. You'll work directly with industry experts across our stores, distribution centers, and corporate offices, gaining practical experience through hands-on projects that make meaningful contributions to our business and communities.

This internship is based at our headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our corporate office is a space where you can collaborate and do your best work. Our 25-story Tech Hub is where the future of retail is born. This space is designed to inspire, and you're just a few steps away from some of the best restaurants in town.
Education and/or Experience:
- Intent to pursue a bachelor's degree in AI, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or related with an expected graduation date of December 2026 or May 2027
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA required
- Strong collaborative, innovative, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills are required
- Relevant internship and experience is a plus, as is experience in a leadership position at work or within a campus organization
- Proficient in MS Office Programs (specifically Word, Excel, and Power Point)
