Underwriting Assistant
Description
The Underwriting Assistant will be under moderate supervision; the position supports multiple profit centers and business partners. Using standard operating procedures, reference material, and detailed processing instructions, the responsibilities of this role may include clearing new submissions, performing support and distribution tasks, processes rating requests, issues policy / audit / endorsement / cancellation requests for commercial lines of business in a timely and accurate manner, while adhering to compliance guidelines and attestation controls. Frequently acts as a liaison between Underwriting and external business partners in addition to providing guidance and training to external business partners.
Responsibilities
- Using various systems, standard operating procedures, and instructions from stakeholders, the responsibilities of this role may include clearing new submissions, performing support and distribution tasks, process ratings, issue policy / audit / endorsement / cancellation requests for commercial lines of business.
- Maintain documentation in support of compliance and Attestation controls.
- Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner.
- Apply, interpret, validate, and maintain standard operating procedures.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives and participate in root cause problem solving exercises.
- Participate in team huddles, share knowledge, and adhere to our diversity, equity and inclusion practices and principles.
- As requested, engage in self-development, and provide guidance and training to team members and business partners.
- As requested, participate in additional assignments/projects.
- Act as a liaison between Underwriting and external business partners
- Complete transactions and/or tasks with a high degree of accuracy
- Support operational standards in a manner that assists in departmental production goals.

- Associate degree or equivalent work experience plus 1 to 2 years of insurance industry experience required
- Solid problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow and refine detailed processing instructions
- Solid verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office and processing systems
- Solid customer service skills
- Solid organizational and time management skills
Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
