The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

Reporting to the Head of Global Risk Solutions (GRS) Strategy and the President of North America, this role is responsible for orchestrating the development and execution of the long-term strategy for the ~$10B North America business, which includes commercial and specialty insurance businesses in the U.S., Canada, and Bermuda and operates across Major Accounts, Middle Market, Canada, and Specialty segments. This highly visible leadership position demands organizational agility, strategic thinking, and expertise in both commercial and specialty markets, alongside strong people leadership and communication skills. In addition to guiding the long-term strategy, this role also involves facilitating strategic discussions with the North America leadership team, creating executive presentations, and ensuring alignment with the broader strategy of the $25B Global Risk Solutions (GRS) commercial and specialty (re)insurance business.

Responsibilities
  • Orchestrates the setting and monitoring of North America business strategy. Defines and facilitates governance, planning and reporting processes for strategic priorities and measures of success
  • Cultivates strong, positive, and collaborative relationships with North America leadership and represents the North America President`s objectives to the business. Acts as an evangelist to cascade strategy to individual segments and drives execution
  • Brings perspective, learnings, and concerns of North America segment into GRS-wide planning. Uses influence to prevent or halt activities or initiatives that are misaligned with overall North America vision or strategy
  • Builds and maintains strong internal and external networks to advance important cross-business initiatives and infuse internal and external perspectives into operating rhythm of the North America business
  • Leads and partners on key North America strategic initiatives, including market entry, M&A, operating model, capability builds, etc. Provides insightful analysis, findings, and recommendations to North America leadership
  • Manages external consulting relationships for North America, ensuring high impact and positive return-on-investment on strategic engagements
  • Leads GRS Strategy & Corporate Development staff members and their professional development
  • In partnership with the North America Chief of Staff, supports the President in managing the strategic focus of the North America leadership team
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or other related field. MBA or other relevant advanced degree desired
  • Minimum 10-15 years of relevant general business experience, to include experience with consulting, strategy, M&A, finance, and evaluation of the economics of an insurance business
  • Strong understanding of the commercial and specialty (re)insurer market, potentially showcased by professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, ARe, etc.
  • Expert communication and influencing skills, with a strong ability to build consensus among multiple levels and functions within the organization.
  • Must be driven and flexible enough to succeed in ambiguous and less structured situations. High degree of reliability and integrity and comfort with handling confidential information
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple complex projects at one time with competing and shifting priorities
  • Strong people leadership skills
  • Ability and willingness to be mobile and travel domestically
