The Global Data and Advanced Analytics (GDAA) team is focused on delivering best in class data, analytics, and business insights solutions to Global Risk Solutions. GRS Actuarial and Data Science is searching for a highly productive, experienced Senior Director to define, drive and implement our Data Strategy while leading technical teams, driving delivery, setting department objectives and motivating teams to achieve those objectives. The Actuarial Reporting and Analytics Engineering teams deliver data insights for Risk Selection, Exposure Management, Pricing, Reserving, Loss Forecasting, and Portfolio Management, and are critical partners to GRS Flagship initiatives including Quote Bind Issue (QBI) and Cyber Underwriting. The Data Science Engineering teams enable predictive, AI, and Gen AI model insights through easy-to-use and cost-effective technology solutions across GRS functional domains, for Claims management, Risk Selection and Exposure Management, Pricing, and to enable process re-engineering outcomes across the Underwriting value stream.

You will partner with customers, data engineering, data scientists, and subject matter experts in the business to help define and prioritize customer needs and develop valuable state-of-the-art cloud-based solutions. In partnership with Enterprise Data and Data Science, you will leverage the power of the firm to optimize ML Engineering practices and ML Ops, and advance innovative solutions to solve the most impactful business problems, driving GRS to be an industry leader.

The role will have additional responsibilities in supporting and leading data modernization initiatives.

Leads the strategic design and development of capabilities and systems across multiple environments and business groups. Incorporates best development practices and adheres to and advances the ML/AI and Gen AI practices incorporating best practices. Partners with Directors and business clients to create effective engineering teams that support the business needs from ideation to implementation. Leads support for a portfolio of applications. Drives and implements change and continuous improvement, with a focus on disciplined execution and expense management practices. Maintains breadth and depth of perspective, utilizing enterprise and industry/market trends. Builds a high performing organization.

About the role:

  • Directs the strategic design and development of capabilities and systems across multiple environments and business groups. Implements business and/or I/S vision, critical success factors and operating plans ensures the implementation and use of best software development practices.
  • Communicates department/enterprise vision, strategies, critical success factors and plans develops high level plans.
  • Anticipates and manages technology evolution and relates it to business solutions. Sets high level direction based on knowledge of industry trends, overall technology standards, and alignment to the business.
  • Hires and manages lower level managers coaches and counsels managers regarding management techniques.
  • Determines and manages staffing strategy and plan (# of FTEs, skills needed, depth of experience, internal and external staffing mix) consistent with the needs of the department.
  • Defines department objectives and identifies and addresses group development needs to create high performance software development organization.
  • Initiates and fosters business partnerships with current and potential clients, vendors, I/S executives, and senior business executives develops relationships that promote trust and increase efficiency and effectiveness balances individual client needs with business priorities assuring alignment with the business strategies and objectives.
  • Oversees the development, implementation and execution of multiple projects ensuring scope and schedule are established for projects oversees operating plan and resource allocation for the department, including prioritization and staff deployment acts based on changed priorities.
  • Jointly establishes financial targets with business partners and ensures that projects deliver to plan.
  • Develops and maintains a network of industry contacts performs or directs research on industry trends, competitors, business and IT products analyzes trends and makes strategic and tactical recommendations.
  • Ensures system, technical and product architectures are aligned with business objectives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in technical or business discipline or related experience; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Generally a minimum of 15 years related experience with 5 years in leadership role desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies and their application to business opportunities.
  • In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of project planning methodologies and tools and IT standards and guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques.
  • Ability to promote a team environment consisting of several teams.
  • Highly developed negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
