About the Role:
Do you have the desire and drive to work on the latest in data, cloud, and AI technologies to build enterprise solutions? The Data & Analytics department of Liberty International Insurance & LM Re is hiring a Solution Engineer to lead multiple new squads of data engineers. This Solution Engineer may come with a background in data and/or software with an emphasis on cloud engineering.
What you'll do
- Lead and coach two forming agile squads of data engineers, fostering collaboration, high-quality delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with product managers, architects, and stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable and secure technical solutions.
- Participate in agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives) and help the squads mature their practices.
- Champion AI/GenAI as an enabler: work with Liberty Air and Liberty GPT initiatives, explore productivity boosters for developers.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in code quality, testing, observability, and documentation.
- Define and document source-to-target mappings with MI and source teams, design clear data flows and lineage.
- Implement data ingestion, curation, and provisioning patterns for analytics, reporting, and data science use cases.
- Build infrastructure as code in AWS to provision data pipelines, compute, and security controls (CDK, CloudFormation, etc.).
- Support AI Initiatives like the Submission Intelligence Tool an AI-assisted decomposition and automation framework used to enhance end-user productivity.
- Drive legacy modernization efforts: partner with GRS architecture to define modernization patterns by tech stack and identify applications/portfolios for incremental modernization.
- Support the migration of data platforms as part of the North Star Data Insights & AI Platform (transitioning from Redshift/SQL Server to Snowflake) in partnership with GDAA.
- Apply data modeling principles to design efficient, governed schemas that meet business needs.
- Communicate progress, tradeoffs, risks, and technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Take solutions to various review boards (e.g. Architecture Review Board).
Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in data and software engineering, solution engineering, or a closely related role
- Must have a strong background leading teams, squads, and initiatives.
- Strong experience with building cloud infrastructures, especially AWS (S3, IAM, CDK, compute, Redshift) Build and support new AWS native cloud data warehouse solutions.
- Strong CI/CD skills (preferably with Github Actions).
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with Python.
- Snowflake experience is a plus.
- Ability to quickly develop easy to maintain web-based front ends for data capture is a plus.
- Develop and optimize ETL processes using AWS services (e.g. AWS Glue, Lambda) to ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation, storage, and cost optimization.

- Bachelors or Masters degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience; technical Master`s degree preferred
- Generally, a minimum of 10 years related experience
- In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies
- In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles
- Knowledgeable in data engineering languages and tools; proficient in new and emerging technologies
- In-depth understanding of layered solutions and designs; in-depth understanding of shared data engineering concepts and product features, as well as security minded
- In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies; in-depth understanding of global business and technology trends and the financial services industry
- Highly developed negotiation, consensus building & influencing skills, facilitation and the adaptability to respond to change quickly
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills
- Ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization
Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
