Principal Test Engineer

Duties:

Lead development of system testing strategies, test plans, test cases and test conditions and oversee testing across multiple environments and enforce QA standards and best practices.

Design, enhance and institutionalize test engineering procedures and standards; define, implement and report on test metrics to measure application quality and delivery risk.

Champion shift-left testing practices (TDD/BDD, white-box/gray-box testing, code coverage, static analysis, service virtualization) to detect defects earlier and improve code quality.

Lead and manage complex projects and subprojects: create project plans, assign tasks, estimate effort, manage QA activities to plan and coordinate cross-functional teams in onsite-offshore delivery models.

Drive automation strategy and implementation across Java and TypeScript stacks; integrate automated tests (unit, API, end-to-end, regression, smoke) into CI/CD pipelines and pipeline gating.

Own performance, load and scalability testing initiatives and perform holistic system-level analysis to identify bottlenecks and remediation actions.

Establish and manage test data management, environment virtualization and security testing initiatives to support reliable and repeatable testing across sprints.

Lead defect triage processes and collaborate with development and product teams to prioritize and resolve issues.

Provide expert guidance on testing systems, processes and methodologies to clients, IT management and project teams throughout the full project lifecycle.

Mentor and coach QA engineers; build team capabilities, promote knowledge sharing and improve technical depth across teams.

Communicate test progress, quality status, risks and metrics regularly to senior stakeholders and product owners; prepare stakeholder presentations and status reports.

Position requires domestic travel up to 10%.

Telecommuting permitted up to 60%.

Requirements:

Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field and eight (8) years of experience in the job offered or in a Principal Test Engineer-related occupation.

Alternatively, employer will accept a Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or in a Principal Test Engineer-related occupation.

Position requires demonstrable experience in the following:

1. Programming in Java (Java 8+) and TypeScript and experience with Node.js runtime and ecosystem.

2. Designing and implementing automated testing strategies across Java and TypeScript stacks, including unit, integration, API, end-to-end, regression and UAT.

3. Utilizing TypeScript, JavaScript, and Java test frameworks and tools.

4. Automating API and service tests.

5. Integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.

6. Experience with build and deploy automation and pipeline gating.

7. Utilizing APM tooling including Splunk and DataDog to support testdriven performance troubleshooting.

8. Testing management and collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence and Git-based source control including GitHub or equivalent.

9. Mentoring and coaching junior engineers through defining QA processes and metrics and communicating testing status and risk to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

10. Working effectively in Agile and DevOps teams to drive shift-left testing practices including TDD and BDD, white-box and gray-box testing, code coverage and static analysis.
