Distribution and Marketing Data Science (DMDS) develops predictive analytics tools and provides data-driven insights that inform strategic decision making, with solutions ranging from optimizing marketing tactics to quote personalization. By leveraging AI, machine learning and other advanced analytics techniques, DMDS increases efficiency and drives profitability across Liberty Mutual.

The DMDS team is seeking an experienced leader to shape the future of Marketing Data Science at Liberty Mutual. This individual will lead a team of data scientists developing models and analytics that enhance media effectiveness, optimize marketing spend, and power personalization across channels. This leader will bring deep marketing and media expertise together with advanced data science to influence strategy, drive growth, and improve marketing ROI. A successful candidate should have in-depth technical experience across the entire data science life cycle, a passion to lead and develop talent, and drive to create an engaging team culture.

This position may have in-office requirements based on candidate location.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of 4-5 data scientists who deliver innovative, data-driven marketing solutions-spanning media mix modeling, campaign optimization, and customer segmentation-to drive marketing effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Create a high-performing team culture, focused on continuous improvement and learning, and bringing cutting-edge data science solutions to marketing challenges.
  • Collaborate with marketing, product, and media analytics teams to develop solutions and drive strategic marketing decisions.
  • Translate marketing and media goals into data science opportunities, bridging the gap between marketing strategy and technical execution.
  • Guide the use of first-party and third-party data to enable more effective targeting, personalization, and campaign measurement.
  • Provide strategic input on highly technically complex projects that drive change across function, SBU, or Corporate Department.
  • Direct work through others and may perform highly complex , technical, and creative predictive analytics projects.
  • Shape the data science community and lead cross-functional working groups.
Desired Skills:
  • Expertise with Python, version control (Git), GLMs & GBMs . Experience with LLMs, NNs, Airflow, Docker, and AWS preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of predictive analytic techniques and statistical diagnostics of models.
  • Experience with marketing analytics platforms, A/B testing, and digital marketing data sources is a plus.
  • Experience developing or applying techniques like media mix modeling, attribution modeling, marketing optimization, or experimentation at scale.
  • Proven ability to lead and drive projects to completion through others, including prior experience effectively managing talent.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization and company.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate areas of senior management concern, integrate different perspectives, and respond accordingly.
Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of predictive analytic techniques and statistical diagnostics of models.
• Expert knowledge of predictive toolset, to include highly technical tools.
• Proven ability to lead and drive projects and assignments to completion through others, to include prior experience effectively managing talent.
• Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, verbally, visually (presentations and exhibits), and in writing, consistent with the audiences and stakeholders with which s/he interacts.
• Ability to establish and build relationships within and outside the aligned functional area or SBU. Ability to give effective training and presentations to management and other groups.
• Presents to senior or functional department leaders or executives.
• Broad knowledge of business drivers and market context.
• Has a value driven perspective with regard to understanding of work context and impact.
• Competencies typically acquired through an advanced degree (in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or other relevant field of study) and 5 to 7 years of relevant experience or may be acquired through a Bachelor`s degree (scientific field of study) with 10 years of relevant experience.
• Insurance or financial services industry experience preferred.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
