Data Science
The US Retail Markets Data Science team brings together a diverse range of talent to predict future risk and what our customers will need to recover. Our data engineers write code that turns trillions of bits of information into structured data-data that our hundred-plus Data Scientists analyze with cutting-edge modeling techniques to unlock insights. From there, our tools and deployment teams ensure this data can be practically applied to business problems across US Retail Markets. The USRM Data Science Demand and Decision Science team is hiring for Director II, Data Science roles. One role will concentrate on the Auto line of business, while the other will focus on Property & Specialty. In these pivotal roles, you will lead a team of talented data scientists responsible for building complex demand models for customer retention and conversion. You will also spearhead the development of expense-based pricing segmentation models and guide critical pricing program design decisions. Additionally, you will leverage causal inference techniques to enable more informed and high impact organizational decisions and conduct detailed cost benefit analyses to assess various strategic options. You will also lead the development and enhancement of demand-based calibration tools to support new rating program rollouts. This is an exciting opportunity for a results-oriented leader passionate about translating data and customer behavioral insights into strategic actions that drive business success.

This role may have in-office requirements based on candidate location.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for management, technical oversight and development for a team of data science.
  • Collaborates with business partners to develop tools and services such as modeling, dashboard development, and decision aids to drive strategic decision making.
  • Presents findings, shares insights, and makes recommendations that impact profitability, growth and/or customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for highly technical, individualized and difficult to develop tools which are transformative in nature and have broad strategic impact to the aligned business unit.
  • Provides strategic input on highly technically complex projects that drive change across function, SBU or Corporate Department.
  • Directs work through others and may perform highly complex, technical and creative predictive analytics projects.
  • Shapes the data science community and leads cross functional working groups.
Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of predictive analytic techniques and statistical diagnostics of models.
• Expert knowledge of predictive toolset, to include highly technical tools.
• Proven ability to lead and drive projects and assignments to completion through others, to include prior experience effectively managing talent.
• Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, verbally, visually (presentations and exhibits), and in writing, consistent with the audiences and stakeholders with which s/he interacts.
• Ability to establish and build relationships within and outside the aligned functional area or SBU. Ability to give effective training and presentations to management and other groups.
• Presents to senior or functional department leaders or executives.
• Broad knowledge of business drivers and market context.
• Has a value driven perspective with regard to understanding of work context and impact.
• Competencies typically acquired through an advanced degree (in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or other relevant field of study) and 5 to 7 years of relevant experience or may be acquired through a Bachelor`s degree (scientific field of study) with 10 years of relevant experience.
• Insurance or financial services industry experience preferred.
