Description
Liberty Mutual's Global Legal & Compliance team is seeking an experienced, strategic, and innovative attorney with at least five years of legal experience in insurance coverage and general insurance regulatory and legal matters . This role will support Liberty's Global Risk Solutions (GRS) and US Retail Markets (USRM) business units within a dynamic Legal Shared Solutions team. The successful candidate will deliver expert legal and regulatory counsel across multiple business functions including coverage guidance, and legal guidance for claims, underwriting, product, and distribution, while embracing the use of technology and innovat ive ways of working .

Typical starting salary for the role is $125,800-150,000. Compensation will depend on experience and geographical location.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and apply policy language, endorsements, and exclusions to assess coverage obligations and potential exposures. Provide practical legal advice and support for insurance coverage issues involving personal and commercial property and casualty policies, addressing both first and third-party claims.
  • Counsel internal partners on domestic insurance legal matters impacting claims, underwriting, product development, and distribution operations across all 50 states and North America.
  • Conduct or assist in delivering training sessions for internal clients on legal and regulatory topics relevant to their functions.
  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret evolving insurance case law, statutes, and regulations to identify emerging trends and proactively communicate insights that inform business decisions and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Deliver clear, business-focused legal opinions, including on complex or novel issues where legal precedent may be limited or unclear.
  • Collaborate closely with GRS and USRM Legal teams to align legal guidance with business strategies and operational goals, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and promote a seamless "One Legal" approach.
  • Ability to provide insights to business partners that enhance legal service delivery , optimize work processes, and drive improvement .
  • Uphold the highest standards of legal ethics, professionalism, and corporate responsibility.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or L.L.B. degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and m inimum of five years of experience as a practicing attorney with substantive work in insurance coverage and regulatory matters .
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex legal and regulatory environments particularly related to property and casualty insurance lines , to provide pragmatic, solutions-oriented advice that supports business objectives .
  • Proven strategic thinker with the ability to see the broader business implications of legal advice and contribute to enterprise-wide goals.
  • Comfortable embracing technology and adept at using data to inform and communicate legal insights effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral .
  • Highly collaborative team player that can agilely handle different types of work and build relationships at all levels within a complex organization with d emonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable , and high-performing team culture.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities effectively.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
