System Engineer

Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled System Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for comprehensive system design, integration, testing, and support. This role includes planning, analyzing, and verifying complex systems to ensure they meet customer and operational requirements. You will play a critical role in the full systems lifecycle-from requirements gathering to final system validation and deployment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical planning and end-to-end system design involving hardware, software, and networks.
  • Perform system integration, verification and validation, and system fielding.
  • Evaluate and analyze alternatives considering cost, risk, and supportability to optimize total system performance.
  • Lead and contribute to systems requirements analysis, functional analysis, and timeline analysis.
  • Conduct trade studies, perform requirements allocation, and define interfaces between components and subsystems.
  • Manage technical aspects of projects, ensuring alignment with performance and quality standards.
  • Support system testing, quality assurance, and configuration management throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software engineers, hardware engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • TS/SCI w/ Poly Clearance is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field with 4-8 years of relevant experience; or
  • Master's degree with 2-6 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical planning, system design (hardware, software, and network), development, integration, and fielding of complex systems.
  • Proficiency in requirements analysis, functional decomposition, interface definition, trade studies, and timeline analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with system testing, verification & validation, and quality assurance processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to address ambiguous or undefined technical challenges.
  • Working knowledge of systems integration and troubleshooting across complex system architectures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with experience collaborating across engineering teams and with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and lead small teams or processes within a technical domain.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and methodologies (e.g., INCOSE standards).
  • Experience with Systems Architecture and System Design tools (e.g., SysML, Cameo, IBM DOORS).
  • Familiarity with Cybersecurity principles and cyber risk management in system design and implementation.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and scripting for systems validation.
  • Knowledge of project management practices, including scope management, risk mitigation, and milestone tracking.
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor junior engineers or technical staff.
  • Experience with Agile, DevSecOps, or other iterative development methodologies.
  • Strong cross-functional understanding of disciplines related to hardware, software, and network systems.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
