The Airborne Systems Division, within the Defense Group at Leidos, currently has a dynamic opportunity for a Structural Engineer to work in our Beavercreek, OH office providing support for our Wright Patterson Air Force Base customer. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to advance the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) Rapid Technology Development and Demonstrations (RTD2) program. In support of the RTD2 program, your position as a Structural Engineer will be to support AFRL programs mature new and emerging technologies. The position objectives are to provide technical and operational support of new and evolving sensor systems and sensor technologies, provide support for ground and flight demonstrations and tests, and to perform sensor system integration into laboratories, aircraft, and other vehicles/platforms as necessary.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions to structural analysis problems for aircraft payloads and podded solutions involving both composites and metallic components.
  • Perform structural analysis using classical methods and commercial software.
  • Analyze and post-process finite element models using Femap and NASTRAN.
  • Generate structural substantiation reports detailing methods and margins of safety.
  • Support Mechanical Engineering staff with design and integration efforts.
  • Must be able to research and investigate structural design solutions and work independently.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 4 years' exprerience or Master's degree in a related discipline and 2 years' experience; 4 additional years of related experience will be acceptable in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience using Femap and NASTRAN.
  • US citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance.
  • Experience with CAD tools, drawings, basic modeling techniques.
  • Familiar with common hand tools (screw drivers, drills, wrenches).
  • Experience with analysis of composite materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Creo.
  • Experience with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 drawing practices.
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes.
  • Familiar with fatigue analysis.
  • Familiar with applying CFD pressure maps in finite element models.
  • Familiar with basic Thermal Analysis.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
