Spaceflight Hardware/Software Systems Engineer (NASA HHPC- Johnson Space Center)

Description

Leidos is seeking a Hardware/Software Systems Engineer, experienced in spaceflight projects, to work on NASA's Health and Human Performance Contract (HHPC). This position will provide critical systems engineering leadership as NASA continues to evolve systems for exploration missions including Gateway, lunar surface, Mars transit, and Mars surface missions.

This position is located at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas and has the opportunity to work 1-2 days per week remote.

The Hardware/Software Systems Engineer will develop and integrate next generation technology, processes, and design into solutions that will enable astronauts and the program to safely execute missions beyond low earth orbit. This position is responsible for identifying and managing system requirements, verification, and validation activity. The successful candidate will help define the system architecture and system interfaces, evaluate system characteristics and performance, lead integration efforts, participate in testing of work products, and support the lifecycle review process.

Duties also include participation in design reviews, risk and opportunity management, performing trade studies, leveraging subject matter experts to execute technical strategy, and working with innovative technology/design/processes developed internally by NASA and externally by leading technology companies.

US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Pubic Trust Security Clearance are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and deliver systems engineering artifacts, such as: concepts of operations, requirements, traces, allocations, system architectures, design solutions, interface definitions.
  • Participate in system testing; administer systems operations and sustainment activities.
  • Perform verification / validation planning and execution.
  • Apply systems engineering concepts and prior experience in collaboration with project team to achieve project milestones.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline, and 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience leading technical spaceflight projects involving both hardware and software configuration items
  • Experience and / or knowledge of systems engineering, including: requirements development, functional decomposition and allocation, functional integration, integrated design, analysis and evaluation, verification
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal/external stakeholders across multi-disciplinary groups and organizational levels
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Development Assurance, Certification and Safety Analysis
  • Familiarity with requirements development software applications (e.g. Cradle, DOORs), Object oriented programming, data visualization tools and scripting languages
  • Knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Prior experience supporting NASA programs

Pay Range:

Pay Range $65,000.00 - $117,500.00
