Location: The portfolio is based out of Farnborough in Hampshire with elements of the customer organisation in the Midlands and London. Leidos operates a hybrid working model with home working for this role supported but the successful candidate should be prepared to travel to the core office on average about 2d/wk with occasional visits to customer sites as required by the job.

The Role:

Leidos is looking to hire a Senior Programme Manager (PM) to work on one of our flagship government portfolios delivering critical National Security infrastructure. This role will lead one of the three major pillars of work in the portfolio supporting organisations directly and with real world impact. The portfolio delivers mission critical services to the UK Government, alongside a complex programme of digital transformation and modernisation.

Senior PMs in Leidos are accountable for delivering complex and hybrid programmes of work and are provided with the authority and support to help them succeed; they have a seat on the Portfolio leadership team. The Senior PM will directly manage a team of Project Managers and Engineers to deliver and control a complex programme of interdependent changes, being responsible for resource, schedule, risk and budget management on behalf of the Portfolio Director.

Leidos believes in collaborative working and that is the goal in this portfolio; engaging closely with our customers to understand their needs and working together to deliver the outcomes that will satisfy within the available budget. Structured and clear planning is also critical to success and the successful candidate will have a clear approach to planning new work, a strong grasp of the PM discipline and ideally an understanding of Systems Thinking and principles with exposure to Systems Engineering as an advantage but not essential. While the portfolio of work and the associated management processes are mature, Leidos is a learning organisation and there is scope for the successful candidate to identify areas for improvement and achieve a real impact.

What does Leidos need from me?

The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:

  • Leading and delivering projects & programmes over £10m in size, ideally for a government customer.
  • Proactively leading small and medium sized teams of specialists to successfully deliver.
  • Leading the management of Change using a structured framework to control programme baselines.
  • Programme finance and budget management (Control Accounts).
  • Working within a defined risk management framework to identify and manage risk.
  • Supporting the development of holistic technical solutions and associated delivery planning.
  • Managing and working collaboratively with Customers, other Stakeholders and Executive Managers.
  • Effective reporting and communications management.
  • Supporting staff development, mentoring and coaching.

The successful candidate will display the following character traits:

  • Able to work under pressure - prioritising and delegating as necessary to cover the work while remaining unafraid to get involved if required.
  • Strong communications skills underpinned by the integrity and moral courage to engage openly and transparently.
  • Excellent decision making skills understanding the need to make decisions with less than all of the information in some circumstances.
  • A clear understanding of the requirements of Servant Leadership and the ability to both lead, and follow.
  • Clear structured thinking and planning, ideally with some engagement of systems thinking principles.

Clearance Requirements: This role supports the delivery of National Security and as such, candidates should either hold Security Clearance (SC) or be able to achieve this. Additionally police specific clearance may be required.
