Description
Leidos has an exciting opportunity for a Safety Specialist/Industrial Hygienistat the NASA Headquarters (HQ) in Washington DC.
We are seeking a Safety Specialist/Industrial Hygienist with building life safety and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) experience to work with the best and brightest at NASA Headquarters (HQ) in Washington DC in support of NASA HQ health and safety programs. The position works under general supervision of the Team Lead and is expected to apply basic safety fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures. Successful candidate will exercise independent judgment within defined procedures and practices.
US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Clearance are required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform facility safety inspections to determine compliance with regulations and standards; verify that corrective actions are implemented
- Review site-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) for construction and maintenance activities to ensure that safety and health concerns have been identified and adequately controlled
- Respond to urgent customer concerns which typically consists of the ability to immediately respond to phone and email notifications of areas of concern from the buildings' populace to discover and characterize uncontrolled hazards, and to recommend to the government the next course of action
- Review job hazard analyses and advise personnel on need for and proper use of personal protective equipment
- Perform compliance assessments of safety and health programs against OSHA regulations and Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Program manuals
- Be a general resource in one or more safety subject areas such as facility life safety, fall protection, PPE / JHA, LO / TO, confined space, construction, hot work, etc
- Provide Safety & Health Training per the safety training plan. Develop highest priority training classes, implement a training schedule, and provide instructor led classes
- Develop/update or modify written safety and health programs to meet specific requirement of NASA and OSHA required hazard control programs
- Perform comprehensive Industrial Hygiene and environmental sampling, maintain chain of custody, engage appropriate laboratories, and interpret and document the results after developing a sampling strategy
- Maintain a hazardous material inventory of all chemicals onsite and their associated Safety Data Sheets
- Ensure IH sampling equipment is factory maintained, calibrated, and certified in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations to assure data integrity
- Apply occupational health and safety principles in all activities

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Safety or related field with 2+ years of experience in Safety involving the ability to apply and interpret Federal OSHA Regulation and other standards (Building Code, National Electric Code, National Fire Protection Association)
- Knowledge of occupational health and industrial hygiene concepts, building ventilation systems, environmental sampling, exposure sampling, ergonomics, indoor air quality, chemical safety and the HAZCOM standard
- A technical background in various process, utility, industrial and or mechanical systems and an understanding of associated hazards and risk assessment methodology
- Strong interpersonal skills as the position involves interfacing with client and on-site contractor personnel. Candidate must be experienced in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, for presentations, reports, and other uses.
- Ability to apply and interpret Federal OSHA regulations and other standards (Building Code, National Electric Code, National Fire Protection Association), and have good oral and written communication skills
- Strong knowledge of data metrics and must be experienced in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, for presentations, reports, and other uses.
- Familiarity with construction site activities, safety procedures and requirements;
- General knowledge of facility systems such as life safety, ventilation, electrical, and material handling;
- A technical background in various process, utility, industrial and or mechanical systems and an understanding of associated hazards and risk assessment methodology

Pay Range:
Pay Range $57,850.00 - $104,575.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
