Leidos is seeking a Media Specialist II to join the ATF/NTC program!
The ATF is a unique law enforcement agency in the United State Department of Justice that protects our communities from violent criminals, criminal organizations, the illegal use and trafficking of firearms, the illegal use and storage of explosives, acts of arson and bombings, acts of terrorism, and the illegal diversion of alcohol and tobacco products. They collaborate with communities, industries, law enforcement, and public safety agencies to safeguard the public we serve through information sharing, training, research and use of technology.
The mission of the National Tracing Center (NTC), a Division of the ATF, is to trace firearms recovered in criminal investigations to provide investigative leads for federal, state, local, and foreign law enforcement agencies. This helps identify suspects, detect firearms trafficking, and track the movement of crime guns-whether within a state, across state lines, or internationally. The NTC is the only crime gun tracing facility in the U.S., and it's essential for solving gun-related crimes and curbing illegal firearm distribution.
The Media Specialist II (MSII) works within the NTC and functions as part of the Media Conversion Team. The MSII is primarily responsible for the day-to-day receiving and logging of new media storage devices. The MSII is also responsible for the creation of flattened image files to be loaded into the Enterprise Content Management System (ECM) and the destruction of processed and loaded federal firearms information.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Media Specialist maintains functionality (expiration dates, incorrect labeling, etc.) for a variety of media sources, e.g., tapes, cassettes, microfiche, film, and compact disks/DVDs, in addition to introduction of new media technology. Troubleshoots and resolves media errors and data processing problems; entry-level media specialists focus on preplanned procedures when troubleshooting, while experienced media specialists may use options other than standard operating procedures based on experience.
In addition to maintaining the media library and resolving common data processing problems, the MSII diagnoses and acts on media errors not fully covered by existing procedures and guidelines (e.g., tape, disposition or making mechanical adjustments to maintain or restore media equipment).
This position will support the program by:
- Creating non-searchable files to be uploaded to ECM.
- Exhibiting a working knowledge of various document formats and determining which tools to use for reading the data.
- Initiating the process to deliver converted image files and accessory files to ECM.
- Using ECM to verify FFL entries and perform other QC and analysis functions.
- Ensuring records are available from ECM visually verifying view icons are available and randomly sampling for FFL and Serial Number searches.
- Creating and editing FID Notes when necessary.
- Knowing where to locate and how to use folders and files saved to the ATF shared drive.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered, the applicant should have / be:
- Able to demonstrate a highly functioning level of research and resolution skills.
- Two years' experience working directly with MS Excel.
- Extensive knowledge of dealer record formats specifically acquisition and disposition records.
- Knowledge of serial number patterns and other firearm related information such as Manufacturer, Importer, caliber and model.
- Working knowledge of the Tracing Process.
- Proficient and knowledgeable with various computer programs and databases used in the Tracing Process including, but not limited to, FTS, FLS, FID, ECM, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- A professional demeanor exemplifying the work ethic and behaviors that team members should strive to replicate.
- Able to identify potential problems or issues and follow appropriate channels to report.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust Security Clearance.
- High School Diploma OR General Education Degree (GED).

Preferred Qualifications:
- Must have 6 months in current position, prefer recent experience from OBRR and / or OBR Tracing.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum wage requirements as well as the minimum Health and Welfare benefit. Leidos will ensure that all provisions are met through their wages and benefits. The minimum pay for this position will be $22.09/hr.
