Environmental Engineer (PFAS Expert)
Description
Leidos is seeking an Environmental Engineer with PFAS expertise to support our growing environmental investigation, restoration, and compliance services.
This is a Remote Position, with up to 20% travel across the US.
The Environmental Engineer will work under the supervision of Senior Staff providing office and field support for environmental investigation and restoration sites impacted by PFAS petroleum, chlorinated solvents, explosive constituents, and other contaminants. Projects include field engineering, remediation system design and construction, remediation system optimization, remediation system maintenance and operation.
The role also involves providing guidance and technical support across our portfolio of PFAS projects. In this capacity you will work with our PFAS Practice Lead to shape and direct our PFAS practice services. You will interact and be supported by our PFAS Advisory Team and PFAS Community of Practice. A key aspect of the role is to help maintain consistency across our portfolio of PFAS work, including factors such as technical excellence, technical approach, data visualization, data-driven conclusions, and recommendations.
The Challenge:
- Work on a variety of project types and across various stages of project life-cycles. Support remedial alternatives evaluation and selection, treatability studies and field pilot testing, remedial design, permitting, remediation construction management, remedial system operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring in accordance with RCRA, CERCLA, and various US state regulatory programs.
- Support preparation of project documents such as work plans, reports, tables, figures, design and specifications, supporting calculations, and construction bid packages/comparisons
- Assist in maintaining strong health and safety performance and compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Communicate with subcontractors, site/facility personnel, client contacts, and regulators during field activities
- Provide technical guidance, technical review, aid in technical project planning, present technical summaries and/or lead technical discussions (related to PFAS) during project meetings, client meetings, and public meetings.
- Support the PFAS Practice Lead with development and execution of strategic plans for the PFAS portfolio with respect to technical excellence, client development, and continued market growth. Support the PFAS Practice Lead in maintaining technical excellence and consistency across projects.
- Work with project teams, PFAS staff, and/or independently to develop conference presentations, white papers, and/or journal articles related to PFAS. Maintain detailed knowledge of current state of the science and regulatory environment via continued education, research, and involvement with trade-groups (eg., ITRC, SAME, NGWA, ASCE, etc.)

Required Qualifications:
- Requires BS degree and 8+ years, Masters with 6+ years; or PhD with 4+ years of prior relevant experience.
- Proven experience on multiple CERCLA PA/SI, RI/FS projects or RCRA equivalents
- Experience with various remediation technologies and remediation systems. Strong familiarity with site characterization, data-requirements, and compliance with state and federal regulations as they pertain to remedial design
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Expertise in developing technical approaches for complex environmental investigations and creating Conceptual Site Models related to PFAS
- Must have, or be able to obtain shortly after hire, OSHA 1910.120 hazardous waste worker certification (e.g., ability to perform fieldwork at hazardous waste sites).
- Must possess a valid driver's license and pass government background checks to access and work on U.S. Government installations.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- EIT preferred or ability to obtain w/in 6 months
- Prior fieldwork experience a plus. Particularly related to remediation and characterization.
- Advanced knowledge of environmental characterization and restoration for PFAS.
- Experience with AFCEC, USACE, NGB, and/or SERDP/ESTCP.
- Experience developing and delivering technical presentations and poster presentations at conferences.
- Ability to author technical white papers, journal articles, and abstracts

Pay Range:
Pay Range $72,150.00 - $130,425.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
