Electro - Mechanical Technician
Description
The Maritime Systems Division at Leidos currently has an opening for an Electro-Mechanical technician in San Diego, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to join a fast-paced engineering group rapid-prototyping a variety of ocean systems! Collaborate across our medium-sized team holding complete technical responsibility for custom development and prototyping across many technical disciplines. Team prototyping efforts span from real-world problem-solving, all the way through concept development, followed by iterative design and testing, and conclude with product demonstrations.
This Electro/Mechanical Technician will support fabrication, quality assurance and testing of specialized oceanographic equipment. The technician will regularly fabricate electrical subassemblies including wire harnesses, sensors, and other complex mechanical assemblies, all while following engineering standards, specifications and drawings. The technician will also be handling, splicing, and testing fiber optics. Lastly, this technician will have collateral duties in learning and performing specialized, fiber optic winding processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
Electronics Technician Support:
- Solder to specifications.
- Create wire harnesses and cable assemblies to specifications.
- Obtain solder certifications within 6 months.
- Surface mount soldering NOT required but would be a bonus.
- Perform functional electronics tests and calibrations according to procedure.
General Assembly & Fabrication
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and build them.
- Follow and log information in workorders.
- Complete configuration and issue logs during builds.
Fiber Optic Assembly & Testing:
- Learn specialized fiber-optics techniques.
- Handle, splice and test fiber optic connections.
- Perform functional fiber continuity tests according to procedure.
Fiber Winding: (collateral duty, approx. 10%)
- Learn proprietary winding processes.
- Obtain fiber optics certifications within 1 year.
- Provide quality control oversight and complete workorders.
Basic Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen.
- High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years of related experience.
- Ability to obtain an interim SECRET security clearance, pending full SECRET.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
- Must be able to clean and maintain workspace.
- Capability to travel, not more than one week per quarter.
- Able to support local daytime sea testing aboard a small craft as needed.
- Hands on experience in electrical and mechanical assembly, soldering, and use of basic electrical test equipment.
- Self-motivated, self-sufficient, and detail oriented.
- Able to successfully multi-task.
- Needs to work well with others and be able to communicate and understand verbal or written instructions.
- Is not opposed to asking for help or asking for clarity of instructions given if not sure on how to proceed.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent software.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $55,250.00 - $99,875.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
