More About the Role:
Leidos is seeking a Data Center Technician to support the Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) program, which operates the Navy's largest IT services initiative. Under SMIT, Leidos delivers the core infrastructure of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet, including cybersecurity, network operations, service desk support, and data transport. The program aims to unify the Navy's shore-based networks and data management, enhancing service delivery while achieving cost efficiencies through a consolidated enterprise network.
What You'll Get to Do:
The Data Center Technician will manage and maintain physical and virtual infrastructure, ensuring the availability and reliability of systems and services. Responsibilities include responding to system alerts and incidents, conducting server patching and upgrades, and escalating issues as needed. The technician will also provide root cause analysis, document shift activities, and ensure thorough hand-offs. Timely incident notifications to Government representatives are also required.

• Manage and resolve day-to-day issues related to IT hardware and operating systems.
• Ensure stable and secure operation of data center systems and applications.
• Respond to escalations from monitoring teams, verifying system performance and security compliance.
• Analyze system alerts to determine root causes and track incidents through resolution.
• Adhere to established standards, procedures, and enterprise operational processes.
• Collaborate with Data Center Operations to plan and implement new technologies.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs for up to a 100 feet at a time; must be able to lift 25 lbs vertically using ladders.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces, such as raised floors or communications closets; must be able to work in noisy environments, such as data centers and operations centers; must be able to stand or sit for 8 hours at a time.
• Must be able to utilize basic hand tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches while rack mounting active and passive equipment using small screws and brackets.
• Must be able to identify different colors of wires and cables; must be able to see objects and information displayed in schematics, test equipment, and computer monitors; must be able to judge distance between objects to work safely on ladders and in confined spaces; must be able to use and read digital test equipment such as OTDR.
• Must be able to drive corporate vehicle to different locations to work on projects and troubleshoot; valid state license required.
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of relevant IT experience.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and have an active DoD Secret Clearance.
• DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE).
• Hands-on experience with DoD networks, including NIPR and SIPR.
• Experience supporting data center and network upgrades/enhancements.
• Strong knowledge of virtualization, operating systems, and IT hardware/software.
• Ability to evaluate and report on emerging IT technologies.
• Willingness to provide 24/7 on-call support.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
• CompTIA A+ CE Certification.
• Proactive mindset with an entrepreneurial approach to innovation and improvement.
• Ability to align project goals with customer needs and strategic direction.
• Experience collaborating in matrixed teams, with effective communication across all levels.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of producing detailed technical reports.
