Leidos is looking for an intelligent, hardworking, high-energy, and flexible Assistant General Counsel to join our Corporate Legal Department in Reston - VA. This role requires an Attorney experienced in managing and handling litigation, claims, disputes and investigations, government and commercial contracting matters, as well as familiarity with ethics and compliance matters. The position will work closely with various members of the legal, ethics and business integrity, compliance, contracts, procurement, strategic sourcing, internal audit, risk management and accounting/finance departments, as well as other corporate and line organization functions and personnel.

  • Handle, oversee and manage claims, disputes, and litigation and threatened litigation, including retaining and supervising outside counsel as necessary, and working collaboratively with other members of the Legal Department.
  • Manage and assist with a variety of U.S. and international government and commercial contracting, construction, personal injury, property damage, intellectual property and other business litigation and arbitrations. This involves managing outside counsel and developing and directing case strategy; conducting fact finding and legal analysis; participating in witness interviews and depositions; overseeing document collection and eDiscovery; reviewing and editing pleadings; budgeting and tracking costs; and providing reports to management on case status and developments.
  • Work with line organization attorneys on pre-litigation disputes with clients, vendors, and other third parties and provide other advice as requested.
  • Draft, review and provide legal advice on policies, procedures, communications and contract language.
  • Manage, conduct and/or assist with various internal and external investigations and related legal, ethics, business integrity and compliance matters. Develop, implement, and manage strategies and tactics to defend external investigations and bring them to a successful and cost-effective resolution.
  • Handle, direct and manage responses to third party and Government-issued subpoenas and record/preservation requests.
  • Handle, direct and manage responses to garnishments, liens, levies, judgments and related notices, requests and pleadings.
  • Interact with other attorneys and internal clients on various legal advice and counseling activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and a member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar or eligible for admission as Virginia Corporate Counsel.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of relevant legal experience -- in-house, at a top tier law firm and/or in the government.
  • Broad experience in handling, managing and resolving disputes, claims and litigation, and conducting/directing investigations.
  • Ability to collaborate and cooperate effectively with internal investigative and compliance professionals, other corporate functions and departments, line organization personnel, and external parties such as outside law firms and Governmental personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience with eDiscovery systems/platforms, including document collection, review and analysis.
  • Experience with white collar and procurement fraud-related investigations and handling sensitive, confidential and classified matters.
  • Strong background in government and commercial contracting and detailed knowledge of the FAR and other agency FAR Supplements.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the company, in particular senior management, is a must.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism, integrity and collegiality.
  • Excellent business judgment and initiative, and the ability to work well in a collegial, team-oriented environment; must have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop comprehensive, business-oriented solutions to challenging issues.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized and responsive, and the ability to complete matters without extensive supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience at a US government contractor.
  • Possessing an active security clearance or the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
