Position Summary:

The Research Associate performs routine inhalation technical procedures necessary to conduct inhalation toxicology studies in small and large animal species. Undertakes routine equipment calibration and validation of departmental equipment and makes a positive contribution to the general maintenance and up-keep of the facility. Collects data manually and using various computer systems, verifies study data and promotes high standards of data quality and procedural compliance. Ensures that duties are performed according to protocol requirements and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Adheres to the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations and the guidelines in the Guide to the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals issued by the Institute for Laboratory Animal Research.

Candidates given the best consideration will have the following qualifications:

  • Skilled in managing self for daily study activities, data capture and overall routine study conduct
  • Skilled expert in working with or handling various laboratory animals
  • Knowledgeable of regulatory and animal welfare requirements
  • Ability to navigate all office-based software (outlook, CMS, word, PowerPoint, excel, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and responsiveness skills
  • Excellent relationship management internally and externally with team members and clients
  • Skilled in planning own work and priority setting
  • AALAS certification (or equivalent) desirable
  • Standard and novel inhalation exposure systems, sampling techniques and inhalation toxicology procedures (willing to train). Knowledge of dosing by other routes of administration is desirable but not essential.

Other Essential Responsibilities Include (not limited to):

  • Provides technical study support on large and small animal inhalation studies
  • Demonstrates understanding of study design, company policies and standard operating procedures; complies with defined requirements
  • Assembles exposure systems, aerosol generators and sampling systems under supervision
  • Under supervision performs routine and non-routine cleaning and decontamination procedures for inhalation equipment and facilities
  • Demonstrates consistent, repeatable and competent technique in the generation of test items by standard and novel methods in relevant species
  • Resolves simple and complex respiratory safety assessment /inhalation study problems
  • Develops basic understanding of standard inhalation generation systems, sampling systems and exposure system methodology / procedures
  • Demonstrates understanding of cross contamination risks and the importance of daily inhalation room/equipment cleaning procedures / methodology
  • Assists in keeping the facility, study rooms and equipment maintained at high standards of cleanliness, maintenance, organization, etc.

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a science or animal related field, or a combination of education, training, and experience.
