The perfect candidate for this role will demonstrate the depth of expertise in multiple technical assays, supporting the independent performance and troubleshooting of multiple technical assays. Candidate will have a strong knowledge of the scientific principles underlying their assay responsibilities and broader technical field. In addition, will draft complex technical, laboratory and system SOP/Policies meeting GLP/GCP/CLIA requirements. Individual will draft and review methods, working documents, protocols, reports as required and support laboratory operations as necessary.
The Lead Scientist I will routinely conduct several assays pertaining to common techniques; where necessary, guidance will be provided by a more experienced Lead Scientist. Typically, the Lead Scientist I will be responsible for multiple projects (for one or several related techniques), may be part of a larger cross-sectional team.

The Lead Scientist I will write sample analysis protocols and reports, prepare and review methods in collaboration with the method development scientists, and are accountable for the approval and integrity of data and associated quality documents.
The Lead Scientist I will have a good working knowledge of GLP/GCP/CLIA regulatory guidelines as they ensure projects are carried out to the required standards, and work is conducted in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Incumbent can troubleshoot techniques in their area of expertise. The management and approval of assay data by the Lead Scientist I form a large area of responsibility for regulatory projects. They are required to act as a Contributing Scientist (CS) or Principal Investigator (PI) for GLP projects, or Responsible Scientist (RS) for GCP projects. The Lead Scientist I is therefore required to adapt to changing regulatory requirements, depending on project types.
In this role, the Lead Scientist I will provide internal customers and Sponsors with a central scientific point of contact for techniques within their area of expertise. The individual is accountable for effective communication directly with the Sponsor to ensure that project requirements and deliverables are met. This includes discussion with the Project Management Office (PMO) and communication with managers, as well as other scientific or analytical staff. The Lead Scientist I have scientific oversight of relevant techniques to ensure the successful initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and completion of projects.
The individual will work with senior Lead Scientists to identify and communicate scientific and regulatory developments within their field of expertise, including QA, management, and analytical staff. The Lead Scientist I may represent Labcorp internally or externally by preparing and/or giving presentations and writing or supporting the preparation of scientific papers and/or posters.
The candidate may be required to perform lab work and provide support with regards to general laboratory operations and processes, leading by example to members of the operations team.
The individual will adhere to all applicable SOP/Policies and will be responsible for completion of all relevant documentation.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in science or related field and 4-5 years experience. Masters (MS) or PhD degree in science field is preferred. (Experience in related work above, may be substituted for MS or PhD education.)
- 4-5 years of experience in job discipline, preferred LBA experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize and manager time.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Experience with Watson, Nautilus, and Analyst preferred.
- Knowledge of regulatory agency guidelines.
Pay Range: $55,000-$92,000 annually
