Job Summary
The Executive Director of AI/ML Engineering is a senior technology leader responsible for driving the design, development, and deployment of AI-powered applications across Labcorp. This role sets the engineering vision and leads the technical execution of advanced AI and data products that support clinical research, diagnostics, and healthcare operations.
You'll guide teams building everything from enterprise-scale software platforms to automation tools that improve how we deliver healthcare insights. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in AI/ML and modern software engineering with strong leadership and strategic thinking-helping shape how Labcorp applies intelligent technologies to improve health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the AI/ML Engineering organization, including data, ML, platform, and DevOps teams responsible for delivering reliable, scalable, and secure applications.
- Define and execute the long-term technical vision and architecture for Labcorp's AI platforms and development frameworks.
- Translate product roadmaps into scalable, cloud-native applications and platforms for internal and external users.
Technical Innovation & Execution
- Oversee rapid prototyping and enterprise deployment of AI-driven tools and emerging technologies.
- Provide technical direction on the integration of AI/ML models (classical and neural) with modern data systems such as Snowflake, Postgres, and ElasticSearch.
- Occasionally take a hands-on role in shaping or reviewing key technical implementations.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Build, mentor, and retain a diverse, high-performing engineering team with expertise in AI/ML, data, and platform development.
- Foster a culture centered on innovation, learning, collaboration, and accountability.
- Empower teams to experiment, deliver, and grow through open communication and trust.
Cross-Functional & Strategic Collaboration
- Work closely with product, design, data science, clinical, and compliance teams to ensure AI/ML solutions are scalable, secure, and compliant.
- Act as the senior technical advisor to executives and stakeholders-translating engineering progress into clear, business-focused outcomes.
Operational Management & Governance
- Oversee budgets, vendor partnerships, and delivery of engineering initiatives across the AI portfolio.
- Continuously improve processes and efficiency through agile and DevOps best practices.
- Ensure engineering operations align with global regulatory, security, and ethical AI standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- 12+ years of experience in AI/ML software engineering, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or Bioinformatics.
- Experience with high-performance computing and advanced computing environments.
- Publications or recognized contributions to AI in healthcare, life sciences, or scientific computing.
Skills & Competencies
- Proven success leading teams that have built and deployed enterprise-scale AI/ML systems.
- Deep knowledge of ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), programming languages (Python, JavaScript/Node.js), and DevOps pipelines.
- Expertise in distributed data platforms, APIs, and modern software delivery methods.
- Experience implementing LLMs and multi-modal AI solutions in production.
- Strong background in regulated industries such as healthcare or clinical trials.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and executive influencing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale engineering portfolios with strategic and operational complexity.

Working Conditions
Hybrid and flexible work options are available, with preference for candidates located near Labcorp's engineering, innovation, or research hubs.
Application Window: 10/31/2025
Pay Range: $200-300k
All job offers will be based on a candidate's skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
The position is also eligible for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan. Bonuses are payable based on corporate and/or business segment performance and are subject to individual performance modifiers. Compensation may also include discretionary short- and long-term incentive packages.
Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
