As an Animal Caretaker, you will play a vital role within the Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology (DART) group. This position involves the overall supply, gentle handling, and attentive care of research animals, alongside active support in health surveillance, diagnosis, and treatment within your assigned area. Your work directly contributes to the preparation and execution of toxicity studies in close collaboration with technicians, veterinarians, study directors, cross-functional teams, and occasionally external experts.

You will be expected to perform your duties in strict compliance with applicable laws, regulatory agency guidelines, Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and specific study protocols. This role requires a proactive approach to monitoring animal health and welfare in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act, while championing the core principles of a Culture of Care. The wellbeing of the animals entrusted to you will always be the highest priority.

What will you be doing:

  • Provide care and handling for animals in alignment with USDA, AAALAC, and other regulatory standards.
  • Perform daily husbandry and sanitation tasks.
  • Learn animal behavior and humane restraint techniques.
  • Identify and report animal care concerns; participate in resolution as needed.
  • Support and maintain ethical standards in all interactions with animals.
  • Clean and maintain equipment (feeders, water bottles, cages, enrichment items).
  • Sanitize animal rooms, hallways, and non-animal areas.
  • Assist with intake of new animals: setting up housing, feeding, documentation, and health screening.
  • Dispense feed and observe general health and behavior.
  • Collect and document study-related data accurately.
  • Communicate deviations and maintain detailed lab records.
  • Work across groups and species as needed.
  • Perform basic procedures: body weights, food consumption, clinical observations.
  • Assist with clinical sampling and study-related tasks (e.g., restraint, blood collection).
  • Suggest and support procedural/process improvements.

How you will be rewarded:

  • Train on 1st shift - M-F 6:30am-3:30pm for 8 weeks.
  • Full time First shift schedule with occasional weekend and holiday work.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related life science field or in any field preferred.
  • Approximately 12 months of experience as an Animal Care Technician preferred.
  • OR 1 year of previous experience working in animal care or cleaning-related roles preferred.
  • A combination of education and/or relevant experience may be considered in lieu of stated qualifications.
