The Role

In Systems Management at Kyndryl, you will be critical in ensuring the smooth operation of our customers' IT infrastructure. You'll be the mastermind behind maintaining and optimizing their systems, ensuring they're always running at peak performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and customise OpenTelemetry Collectors to support platform-specific instrumentation (Linux, Windows, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Build processors, receivers, and exporters in OTEL to align with Elastic APM data schemas.
  • Create robust and scalable pipelines for telemetry data collection and delivery to Elastic Stack.
  • Work closely with platform and application teams to enable auto-instrumentation and custom telemetry.
  • Automate deployment of collectors via Ansible, Terraform, Helm, or Kubernetes operators.
  • Collaborate with Elastic Observability team to validate ingestion formats, indices, and dashboard readiness.
  • Benchmark performance and recommend cost-effective designs.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 5+ years of experience with Golang or similar languages in a systems development context.
  • Deep understanding of OpenTelemetry Collector architecture, pipelines, and customization.
  • Experience with Elastic APM ingestion endpoints and schema alignment.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, system observability (eBPF optional but preferred).
  • Hands-on with deployment automation tools: Ansible, Terraform, Helm, Kustomize.
  • Strong grasp of telemetry protocols: OTLP, gRPC, HTTP, and metrics formats like Prometheus, StatsD.
  • Strong knowledge of Elastic APM, Fleet, and integrations with OpenTelemetry and metric sources.
  • Experience with data ingest and transformation using Logstash, Filebeat, Metricbeat, or custom agents.
  • Proficiency in designing dashboards, custom visualizations, and alerting in Kibana.
  • Understanding of ILM, hot-warm-cold tiering, and Elastic security controls.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Contributions to OpenTelemetry Collector or related CNCF projects.
  • Elastic Observability certifications or demonstrable production experience.
  • Experience in cost modeling and telemetry data optimization.
  • Exposure to Elastic Cloud, ECE, or ECK.
  • Familiarity with alternatives like Dynatrace, Datadog, AppDynamics or SigNoz for benchmarking.
