The Role

Then there's a good chance you will love being a part of our Software Engineering - Development team at Kyndryl, where you will be able to see the immediate value of your work. Platform Engineer - Database is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, security, performance tuning, backup, recovery, and high availability management of Microsoft SQL Server databases supporting enterprise applications and business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain MS SQL Server, and Exadata database platforms.
  • Manage database storage structures including tablespaces, partitions, indexes, ASM, and file systems with optimization best practices.
  • Monitor database performance and perform proactive tuning to ensure high efficiency, availability, and reliability.
  • Implement and manage backup, restore, replication, and disaster recovery solutions (RMAN, Data Guard, Always On).
  • Ensure high availability using clustering, failover, RAC, Data Guard, and replication technologies.
  • Execute database patching activities including pre/post checks, rollback validation, and coordination with vendors (e.g., Exadata patching).
  • Manage database security including user access, encryption, auditing, and compliance adherence.
  • Troubleshoot database incidents, outages, and performance issues in a 24x7 production support environment.
  • Automate DBA and operational activities using scripts and auto-healing solutions.
  • Perform schema changes, data migrations, refresh activities, and database lifecycle management (including decommissioning).
  • Support application teams for release planning, deployment, capacity checks, and cutover/rollback execution.
  • Perform capacity planning, resource optimization (CPU/memory/storage), and storage efficiency improvements (compression, partitioning).

Who You Are

Required Technical and Professional Experience

  • 1 to 3+ years of database developer experience in banking or BFSI domain
  • Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 environments.
  • Expertise in T-SQL programming, stored procedures, triggers, functions, and query optimization.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server architecture, indexing, partitioning, memory management, and performance tuning techniques.
  • Good working knowledge of database design, data modeling, and normalization techniques.
  • Strong expertise in SQL query optimization, execution plan analysis, and performance tuning.
  • Experience in developing and managing stored procedures, functions, triggers, and packages.
  • Exposure to MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB databases.
  • Understanding of indexing strategies, partitioning, and database object optimization.
  • Experience in handling large datasets, data archival, and data lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of data retention policies, compliance, and data governance practices.
  • Experience working in Unix/Linux/Windows environments.
  • Familiarity with version control, release processes, and database deployment best practices.
  • Familiarity with cloud database platforms such as Microsoft Azure SQL, AWS RDS for SQL Server, or hybrid database environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Scripting and automation experience using PowerShell, Python, or DevOps tools is preferred.
  • Good collaboration and communication skills to work with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Bachelore's/Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or SQL Server DBA certifications are highly desirable.
