The Role

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Patching & Vulnerability management Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead and facilitate client workshops, define patching strategies, and implement patching frameworks across a wide range of platforms-including Operating Systems, Middleware, and Databases. The SME will play a key role in enabling security compliance, minimizing risk exposure, and ensuring high availability during patching events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead client-facing workshops to assess current patching maturity, identify gaps, and propose best-in-class remediation strategies.
  • Define patching playbooks, procedures, and health check frameworks across supported OS, middleware, and database stacks.
  • Collaborate with client architects, infra teams, and application owners to align patching windows with resiliency and failover architectures.
  • Establish and enforce in-flight validation, pre/post-flight health checks, and rollback procedures.
  • Integrate and operationalize vulnerability scanning tools, CVSS/CVE-based risk ratings, and patch applicability mechanisms.
  • Support configuration drift detection, remediation, and golden image restoration post patching.
  • Define and integrate patching workflows with ITSM tools like ServiceNow, including scheduling, approvals, and incident linking.
  • Generate compliance and patching success/failure metrics dashboards for stakeholders and auditors.
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting for complex patch failures, dependency issues, and middleware/database cluster behaviors.

Operating Systems:

  • IBM AIX, Red Hat/CentOS Linux, Microsoft Windows Server
  • IBM i (iSeries), z/OS (Mainframe)

Middleware Platforms:

  • IBM Stack: IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS), IBM HTTP Server (IHS), DataPower, ISAM, IBM MQ, ACE/IIB
  • Others: WebLogic, Red Hat JWS & EAP, Tomcat, Apache HTTPD, IIS, .NET Core, RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka

Databases:

  • Oracle Database, IBM Db2, MS-SQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Sybase, MongoDB, Redis

  • 7+ years of experience in patching administration across OS, middleware, and databases
  • Expertise in vulnerability assessment and interpreting CVSS/CVE risk scores for patch prioritization
  • Proficient in automated patching tools such as:
  • Red Hat Satellite / Red Hat Insights
  • IBM NIM / SUMA
  • WSUS / SCCM / Manage Engine
  • Experience integrating patching with configuration management and drift remediation tools
  • Sound understanding of clustering, high availability, and failover configurations
  • Proficiency with health check scripting, patch pre-validation, and post-patching integrity checks
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow or other ITSM tools for workflow integration and reporting
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to lead technical workshops and executive reviews.
  • In-depth knowledge of Middleware & DB engineering , performance tuning , troubleshooting post patching, cluster intelligence aware operations for minimal downtime

Desirable Qualifications:

Certifications in Red Hat, Microsoft, IBM, or Oracle platforms

Experience with Ansible, Puppet, or other automation framework.

This position requires the employee to work on a regular basis with Kyndryl stakeholders located in other Canadian provinces, the United States, or internationally where English is the common language, making knowledge of the English language a requirement for this position in addition to fluency in French.
