The Role

As a System Administrator at Kyndryl, you'll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You'll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients - which means some of the biggest in the world.

There's never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You'll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You'll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and upgrade MQ queue managers and related software.
  • Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor MQ queues and channels to ensure high availability and performance. Perform regular health checks and apply necessary patches and updates.
  • Troubleshooting: Provide support for incidents related to MQ Series, including root cause analysis and resolution. Collaborate with other teams to resolve network, storage, and server issues.
  • Documentation: Maintain and develop operational documentation, including configuration settings, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize MQ performance, ensuring efficient message processing and minimal downtime.
  • Support and Training: Provide technical support and training to staff on MQ-related matters. Assist in evaluating new MQ software and features for development and production environments.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development, networking, and storage teams to implement MQ solutions and ensure integration with other systems.

Work Environment:

  • Typically office-based, with occasional travel to meet clients or software vendors.
  • Standard working hours, with flexibility for extended hours during critical incidents or project deadlines.

Availability:

  • Willingness to provide 24x7 support and participate in an on-call rotation.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong documentation skills to maintain accurate records of configurations and troubleshooting steps.
  • Understanding of IT policies and industry regulations.
  • Fluent English
  • French would be an asset

Experience:

  • Relevant educational background
  • 5 years MQSeries z/os admin
  • SMPE installation of MQSeries base product (specify versions)
  • Good understanding of MQSeries components (BSDS, Logs, Pagesets) and the IBM utilities to manage them.
  • MQSeries clustering
  • Proficient in MVS tools and utilities (e.g. ISPF, JCL, SDSF, SMPE, standard batch utilities (IEF**, etc), JES, etc.
  • Proficiency in IBM MQ, WebSphere Message Broker, Java, and SpringBoot.

Other Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of security protocols and practices related to MQ.
  • Ability to perform performance tuning and optimization of MQ systems.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery operations.

This position requires the employee to work on a regular basis with Kyndryl stakeholders located in other Canadian provinces, the United States, or internationally where English is the common language, making knowledge of the English language a requirement for this position in addition to fluency in French.
