The Role
As a System Administrator at Kyndryl, you'll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You'll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients - which means some of the biggest in the world.
There's never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You'll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You'll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.
The focus of this position is in the support of IMS (Information Management System). IMS is a mainframe-based software system developed by IBM that combines a Transaction Manager and a Database Manager. It was originally developed for NASA's Apollo missions and has evolved to support modern mission-critical Business Applications in industries like banking, insurance and government.
The Mainframe IMS System Administrator / Programmer is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance optimization of IMS environments on IBM z/OS platforms. This role ensures the reliability, security, and efficiency of IMS databases and transaction systems. Key responsibilities include :
- Maintain the IMS infrastructure on the z/OS platform.
- Support IMS-related products and application developers.
- Install, customize, and test IMS system software.
- Perform system upgrades and apply maintenance to keep the IMS environment current.
- Administer IMS DB/DC systems including system definitions, macro configurations, and VTAM terminal setups.
- Monitor and optimize IMS performance using tools like IBM Guardium and IMS Problem Investigator.
- Implement and maintain security protocols, access controls, and audit trails for sensitive data.
- Manage IMS logs and conduct forensic analysis for compliance and troubleshooting.
- Support application teams with IMS-related configurations, batch job scheduling, and data access.
- Collaborate with system programmers, DBAs, and network teams to ensure seamless integration.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 1+ year of experience with zOS Mainframe environments
- Basic IT or programming experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology
- A strong proficiency in French is needed
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
This position requires the employee to work on a regular basis with Kyndryl stakeholders located in other Canadian provinces, the United States, or internationally where English is the common language, making knowledge of the English language a requirement for this position in addition to fluency in French.
