ETHICS & COMPL/HAZMAT REGULATORY COMPLIANCE MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION

Provide support of domestic and international hazardous material (HAZMAT) transportation regulatory programs for the company. Provide strategies, processes, controls, guidance, oversight and training of store, distribution center, manufacturing, and business support associates to maintain U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and applicable state, local and international transportation compliance, such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO.) Coordinate HAZMAT compliance initiatives within the Environmental Compliance Center of Excellence (COE) as directed by Manager or Director. Independently research government regulations and summarize findings with effective communication skills. Track new legislation and help identify the steps Kroger must take to comply. Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Research and resolve HAZMAT transportation compliance questions associated with the Kroger enterprise, inclusive of products being sold or reclaimed, items transported for use in all areas of the company, and waste materials being transported for disposal
- Interpret government regulations to provide guidance to ensure safe transport, storage, and handling of items
- Design and implement programs, policies, and practices to ensure the company is compliant with all applicable federal, state, and local HAZMAT regulatory requirements
- Monitor Government Regulation Activities in advance of potential impact to the company to be able to provide periodic updates on pending legislation and potential impacts
- Train and support associates in all departments performing tasks under the HAZMAT programs for which the position is responsible; create and update training documents; ensure alignment with the needs of other departments to provide programs and training
- Prepare and submit permit applications, compliance reports, and other correspondence
- Respond to information requests from associates and agencies; follow up with all program inquiries in a timely and courteous manner; communicate with local, state and federal agencies on permitting and reporting issues; resolve Notices of Violation
- Ensure maintenance of all records to meet regulatory compliance requirements for the program
- Audit programs to identify potential issues of non-compliance with regulations and adjust practices and procedures to maintain compliance
- Travel up to 20%, including attendance of HAZMAT compliance training programs
- Must be able to perform the essential job functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum
- Bachelor's Degree
- Any experience reading and interpreting regulations; knowledgeable in all required HAZMAT packaging, shipping, and documentation regulations for all ground, sea and air shipments
- 5+ years of experience working in a compliance role within the Transportation and Logistics field
- Hazardous Materials certification
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
