Staff Engineer - New Product Development

Work Mode: Hybrid

Opportunity

The key role of a Staff Engineer is to create new products.  These may be completely new products, line extensions, or modifications to an existing product with limited scope and complexity.  He or she will exhibit considerable project management skill, including complete planning, implementation and critique of all engineering deliverables.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Originates ideas for new products, product features, and product modifications. Determine the technical feasibility of new product concepts and potential modifications to existing products.
  • Establishes product test plans, and design documentation. Products will range from mechanical to electro-mechanical in nature.
  • Conducts engineering analysis and implementation of design modifications to improve manufacturability or cost optimization.
  • Implements a product into production according to established milestones. The engineer should develop project management skills through training and experience.
  • Clearly and effectively present (both written and orally) the results of their efforts to their project teams and/or management as appropriate.
  • Generation and maintenance of product design histories, test documentation and knowledge management information.
  • Counsels and trains less senior engineers and technical support personnel in technical areas as required.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited school as well as 7+ years of working experience.
  • Experience in new product development
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD modeling (Creo preferred) is beneficial
  • In depth understanding of Six Sigma tools including FMEA, DOE, and process capability
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to independently test, analyze, and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed (<10%)
