About The Role:

As the result of an internal promotion, we have a great opportunity for a National Field Operations Manager to join our high performing New Zealand sales team. Reporting to the Consumer Sales Director, this role is responsible for the development of the National Field Sales Strategy with full responsibility for execution of account and category Field initiatives at retail level; direction, measurement, budgetary control and performance of all Field sales teams (Direct, Distributor & 3rd Party).

The job operates in a constantly changing environment with frequent change of focus on both profit and market share depending on specific circumstances, as such the National Operations Manager will have strong market orientation with commensurate leadership, analytical and communication skills. The management of these pressures in such an aggressive market champions the development of new business practices.

The incumbent is required to work closely with National

Account/Category/Marketing groups and their teams to ensure achievement of sales and distribution objectives, with the freedom to direct and control activities of the sales teams within approved guidelines. These include all selling related expenses, changes to territory responsibilities and travel across the country as required.

Specifically you will:

  • Develop, lead and deploy national field strategy, set key performance indicators and procedures that are 'best practise' to assist with the tactical and strategic planning, ensuring achievement of sales and profit objectives for Grocery, Pharmacy & Big Box Retail
  • Provide leadership and direction to Field Operations Managers to ensure retail execution by the Field teams deliver Account & Category priorities
  • Manage 3rd Party agency relationships resulting in exceeding executional expectations, delivering positive a ROI and within budget control
  • Lead and manage capability strategy with our Human Resources Business Partner, provide a capability training program for the Field Sales organisation to build individual key competencies and skill requirements for each respective role. Ensure the development of employees to their full potential through coaching, mentoring, objective setting, and career development planning
  • As a member of the Sales Leadership Team ensure that priority for the team has an enterprise view with focus on our ambitions, strategies, behaviours, values, and goals
  • Ensure maintenance of customer database and evaluate results against agreed benchmark competencies. Coach 'Field Operations Managers' to track performance strengths and weaknesses for appraisal purposes based on the database information
  • Contribute information on market forces relating to products, customers and new business opportunities, to assist with tactical and strategic business plans

About You:

  • A university degree with an orientation in business, sales and/or marketing is preferred
  • A broad knowledge of the New Zealand FMCG industry and market dynamics
  • Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to recognise challenges, take ownership and find solutions
  • Exceptional people management skills

  • High level of oral and written communication
  • Strategic thinking & action taking
  • Appropriate skills in developing programmes to establish procedures and organising
