Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Welding Technician.  The Welding Technician will play a vital role in supporting the welding team by assisting with the development of weld processes, operating mechanized welding equipment, and providing hands-on support to welders and welding engineers. This position requires a strong technical understanding of welding processes, mechanical systems, and automation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for welding technology, an eye for detail, and a commitment to quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Weld Process Development: Assist in developing, refining, and documenting welding procedures. Collaborate with welding engineers to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and production standards.
  • Mechanized Welding Operation: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot automated or robotic welding systems to ensure consistent weld quality and optimal equipment performance.
  • Production Support: Provide hands-on support to welders and operators, including equipment setup, troubleshooting, and technical guidance to meet daily production goals.
  • Process Optimization: Work with engineers and operators to identify and implement improvements that increase efficiency, reduce defects, and enhance weld quality.
  • Quality Assurance & Testing: Assist in weld inspections and testing to verify conformance to specifications and standards. Support data collection for quality control documentation.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs on welding equipment and tools to ensure operational safety and reliability.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of welding procedures, equipment performance, and process changes. Support compliance with internal standards and industry regulations.
  • Shop Equipment Operation: Safely operate shop equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, telehandlers, saws, and plate rolls in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Safety & Housekeeping: Follow all safety procedures and ensure a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing: Assist in training new technicians or operators on welding processes and equipment usage.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay current with advancements in welding technology, equipment, and industry standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality, and manufacturing, to support integrated production efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree or technical certification in welding preferred).
  • Basic understanding of welding processes (GMAW,SMAW,GTAW, etc.) and welding metallurgy.
  • Experience with mechanized or robotic welding systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of welding symbols, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with welding safety standards and regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot mechanical or technical issues.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or welding environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience with automated welding equipment or robotics is a plus.
  • Certification from the American Welding Society (AWS) or similar industry-recognized organizations is a plus.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with engineers, operators, and other technical staff.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks in an agile manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in the use of computers to perform daily work.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of one self and others
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues

Physical Demands

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts and the like
  • Setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding, ladders)
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
  • Communicating with others to exchange information
  • Operating motor vehicles, heavy equipment, or machinery
  • Use of hand tools
  • Repetitive assembly operations of manufacturing test fixtures and test setups in collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams
  • Remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods

Safety and PPE

  • Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs
  • Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes
  • Manipulating, cleaning and disposal of hazardous materials

Travel

  • Some travel may be required (up to 10%) 

Certification

  • Capable of obtaining forklift and boom lift certification
  • Certification from the American Welding Society (AWS) or similar industry-recognized organizations is a plus but not required
