Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Senior Pipe Stress Analysis Engineer with experience in mechanical component and piping analysis to participate on medium to large projects for an advanced Nuclear Power Plant, and related scaled prototype and engineering test plants.

Responsibilities
- Evaluate piping and mechanical components for compliance to design and construction codes and standards
- Perform stress analysis of mechanical components, piping and equipment using both classic and finite element analysis methods (Rohr2 preferred)
- Knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Codes (BPVC) Section III Divisions 1 and 5 and Section VIII Divisions 1 and 2
- Responsible for analyzing piping and piping components using ASME B31.3 as well as ASME Section III piping codes for piping flexibility to ensure pipe stresses and stress ranges are within code allowed limits
- Employ fatigue, corrosion, and high temperature creep life assessment
- Visualize and develop piping models with different operating scenarios (dynamic and static) which include all physical properties of the piping, its contents, and insulation as applicable
- Locate and select pipe supports, and restraints for vessel and piping to maintain static equilibrium, minimize equipment nozzle loads, accommodate thermal growth and minimize stresses
- Perform detail design of pipe supports and restraints, and work with our vendor to ensure the component is fabricated to those specifications
- Work directly with other engineering disciplines to ensure appropriate equipment layout and pipe routing
- Optimize equipment access and ensure loads are properly addressed where piping interfaces with equipment or supports interface with the main structure
- Develop and use hand calculations, spreadsheets, programs, or other tools (Python, Excel and/or MathCAD preferred) to determine or validate miscellaneous expansions, stresses, loads, and support designs
- Perform dynamic analyses to determine loads originating from sudden dynamic events such as valve closure, seismic and pressure and velocity variations
- Use industry best practices in selection of materials for applications at high temperatures
- Create lists, requisitions, and review quotes to support the procurement of pipe support material
- Provide organized and well-written reports and presentations to describe assumptions, steps taken, and results from work performed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
- 10+ years of experience in chemical, power, or nuclear industry piping and/or component design is preferred
- Experience with high temperature pipe stress or vessel analysis experience is highly desired
- Experience with ASME BPVC Section III, and Section VIII applications
- Experience with ASME B31.3 Piping Code
- Experience using CAD tools, SolidWorks preferred
- Experience with Plant Design software platforms such as AVEVA E3D Design is preferred
- Experience with piping analysis tools such as ROHR2, CAESAR II, or AutoPIPE
- Familiarity with standard pipe support design hardware such as constant and variable spring hangers, pipe guides, and snubbers
- Understanding of and experience in design and analysis of piping systems for oil/gas, chemical or nuclear industry
- Experience in high temperature piping applications preferred
- Experience with Python, Excel, MathCAD, or similar programs preferred
- Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with a highly collaborative team
- Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
- Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others
- Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge

The salary range for this position is $140,600 to $165,400 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, the market data for your work location, and a comparison to other employees already in the role.
