Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Automation Engineer for the development and optimization of the KP-FHR automated pebble press system. In this role, you will design, integrate, and automate the systems to reliably manufacture Kairos Power’s pebble fuel form.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, and operation of the Kairos Power automated pebble press system
  • Track equipment performance and make maintenance recommendations or perform design modifications to pebble pressing equipment to improve system reliability based on operating experience
  • Develop operating procedures and maintenance instructions
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment including robot arm
  • Lead robotics integration for the press system, with a focus on automation and optimization of the entire manufacturing system
  • Ensure systems conform to applicable industry and site-specific standards
  • Perform basic programming for automated equipment
  • Provide inputs to the EC&I design team and support implementation to improve reliability, cycle time, and HMI
  • Examine opportunities for automation in the Pebble Development Laboratory and implement additional automation based on clear metrics for cost savings
  • Contribute to investigation and solution implementation of technical problems, root cause analysis, corrective action reports, engineering changes on products and manufacturing processes and verification processes
  • Interact with vendors on procurement of mechanical and automation systems

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical automation or robotics, including design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, and operation of equipment
  • Experience drafting or reviewing mechanical drawings for manufacturing
  • Broad knowledge of engineering topics including process engineering, EC&I engineering, and industrial construction
  • Experience with programming robotics
  • Experience designing new equipment with ability to troubleshoot and improve existing equipment and techniques
  • Experience in equipment commissioning and optimization is preferred
  • Experience with 3D modeling software
  • Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Creative problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong teamwork skills, with an ability to motivate others and to lead or manage teams and projects
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
