Industrial Hygiene Specialist

This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary

As an Environment Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist are a subject matter expert in Industrial Hygiene (IH) and responsible for technical and operational implementation of IH programs at Kairos Power.  You will be a part of a team of EHS experts that collaborate in diverse team in a dynamic setting promoting a culture of safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.  You are primarily responsible for developing and implementing industrial hygiene programs assisting with regulatory compliance and fostering a safe and environmentally conscious work environment.  The ideal candidate will also be open to learning and supporting all aspects of Kairos Power’s EHS program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Industrial Hygiene for Kairos Power.
  • Team with other EHS professionals to collaborate with cross-functional teams, management, and external agencies to ensure alignment with safety goals.
  • Directly engage employees by walking the floor to better understand workflow and processes. Wear PPE as required.
  • Drive the Job Hazard Analysis process and applies data driven controls to improve the overall safety of operations. Perform regular risk assessments. 
  • Develops, reviews, and conducts EHS-related training.
  • Stay current with Industrial Hygiene and Industrial Safety regulations, inspections, and standards and ensure the organization's adherence to all applicable laws.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports, permits, and documentation as required.
  • Conduct internal and external audits and inspections to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist in Investigation of all incidents and accidents, determining root causes and implementing preventive measures.
  • Be a first responder and part of Emergency Response Team
  • Support all other functions under EHS and be a backup to other team members
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field is recommended.
  • 3+ years of experience in an industrial hygiene and demonstrated success in supporting environmental, health and safety programs. EHS certification is a plus. 
  • Understands business objectives and how EHS fits into the organization.
  • Ability to respond to urgent/emergent calls, questions or request.
  • Strong documentation ability to capture incident reports, incident action plans and after-action reports.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain accurate records and assist with data collection/investigations.
  • Support the development of training content under guidance and coordinate trainings with departments.
  • Strong knowledge of EH&S regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Ability to work in an agile R&D environment.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven track record of teaming for a strong safety culture and reducing recordable incident rates.
  • Ability to work in an environment with inside ambient temperatures reaching 100+ degrees.
  • Ability to work within a manufacturing setting and tolerate oil, grease, dust and occasional fumes.
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others.
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge.
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues.

Physical Conditions 

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts, etc.
  • Setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding, ladders)
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 35 pounds in all directions

Travel

Safety and PPE 

  • Manipulating, cleaning and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes
  • Handling of Beryllium (Be)
