Electrical Designer

Company Overview

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary 

Kairos Power is seeking a dedicated Electrical Designer on the Plant Layout team to develop electrical models, designs and drawings (such as junction box diagrams, wiring schematics, loop diagrams, PLC cabinet layouts, etc.) in Navisworks or AutoCAD in a timely manner to support customer schedules. The ideal candidate takes pride in their design skillsets and excel in a fast-paced work environment to execute necessary changes to support the iterative design approach for the technology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments associated with designing electrical equipment, components, and systems for various internal projects
  • Interpret verbal or written direction to initiate preliminary design work to iterate with engineering team members
  • With minimal supervision, create and maintain deliverables such as electrical designs, electrical schematics, cable tray systems, cable & conduit schedules, control schematics, loop diagrams, panels (including mounting components, terminal blocks, associative dimensioning and avoiding interference between equipment) and other electrical design package requirement.
  • With minimal direction performs revisions and updates to designs and drawings based upon data supplied by engineering team
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining project schedules. Communicating project progress and/or delays to appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Comply with all company and customer procedures, engineering practices and other standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, electrical engineering technology, drafting and design or other related design discipline
  • 5+ years of experience working in electrical design and drafting
  • Ability to perform electrical calculations, design/documentation, and non-routine assignments with little or no direction from electrical or I&C engineer
  • Strong proficiency in starting and progressing electrical designs from scratch within only verbal instructions from engineering
  • Production oriented and proficient using AVEVA or PDMS Electrical and Instrumentation (or equivalent) desired
  • Strong electrical acumen with a background in industrial equipment and processes as well as panel layout.
  • Strong understanding of ANSI Y14 drawing standards, ANSI/IEC Symbols, NFPA 70 (NEC), IEEE, UL508A or other codes and standards
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical desired
  • Field experience of process or energy production plants desired
  • Proven ability to create and maintain cross-functional working relationships and communicating design concepts and information with technicians, engineers, and manufacturing personnel
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced small company environment with minimal direction and adjust workload based upon changing priorities
  • Proven team player with excellent interpersonal, written, presentation, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of one self and others
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage, and transfer knowledge
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges, and issues

The hourly range for this position is $42.36-$54.62 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters or $38.08-$44.81 for remote employees working in California. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, the market data for your work location, and a comparison to other employees already in the role.
