Underwriting Supervisor
Join the Wealth Management Mortgage Operations team as an Underwriting Supervisor, where you will lead a high-performing group of mortgage underwriters dedicated to serving high-net-worth clients. As the Underwriting Supervisor within the Wealth Management Mortgage Operations division, you will oversee the mortgage underwriting team, ensuring the accurate and timely review of mortgage applications for high-net-worth clients. You will maintain compliance with internal and regulatory standards, collaborate with relationship managers, risk, and operations, and deliver exceptional client service and sound credit decisions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of mortgage underwriters, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Review and approve complex mortgage applications, ensuring thorough analysis of borrower financials, property appraisals, and risk factors.
- Monitor workflow, allocate resources, and ensure timely completion of underwriting tasks while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure all mortgage underwriting activities adhere to JPMorgan Chase policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines, including federal, state, and investor requirements.
- Conduct periodic audits of mortgage underwriting files, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Partner with relationship managers, risk officers, and operations teams to resolve issues, facilitate smooth mortgage transactions, and support business growth.
- Provide ongoing training to mortgage underwriters on credit policies, product updates, and regulatory changes.
- Prepare and present regular reports on mortgage underwriting performance, trends, and risk metrics to senior management.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Hold a bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field
- Possess 5+ years of experience in mortgage underwriting, target within wealth management or private banking.
- Demonstrate 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Exhibit strong knowledge of mortgage credit analysis, lending products, and regulatory requirements.
- Apply excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills to all aspects of the role.
- Manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in relevant software and systems, including mortgage origination platforms, credit analysis tools, and CRM platforms.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Leverage experience with high-net-worth client mortgage lending and complex credit structures.
- Apply familiarity with JPMorgan Chase mortgage underwriting policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Commit to delivering exceptional client service at all times.
- Advanced degree or professional certification (such as Certified Mortgage Banker or CPA) is preferred.
