As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within the Consumer & Community Banking Branch Technology Team, you serve in a leadership role by providing technical coaching and advisory for multiple technical teams, as well as anticipate the needs and potential dependencies of other functions within the firm. As an expert in your field, your insights influence budget and technical considerations to advance operational efficiencies and functionalities.
Job responsibilities
- Identifies and mitigates issues to execute a book of work while escalating issues as necessary
- Manage a team of entry level to Senior Lead Software Engineers
- Lead the modernization of the Teller platform, transitioning from legacy mainframe systems to modern architectures
- Develop and manage a phased migration roadmap, ensuring minimal business disruption.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance on mainframe re-platforming, refactoring, and integration with cloud-native solution
- Collaborate with business, product, and architecture teams to align modernization and business goals with strategic objectives
- Evaluate and manage vendors, tools, and frameworks for mainframe migration
- Champion modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, automated testing, and agile methodologies
- Monitor progress, manage risks, and report on modernization milestones to senior leadership
- Mentor and develop engineering talent in mainframe and modern technologies
- Ensure all modernization activities comply with security and regulatory standards
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience. In addition, 2+ years of experience leading technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
- Experience leading teams of technologists
- Ability to guide and coach teams on approach to achieve goals aligned against a set of strategic initiatives
- Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
- Practical cloud native experience
- 2 plus years of managing varying levels of Software Engineers
- Experience in Java, Kafka, and Cloud technologies
- Strong understanding of legacy mainframe environments (e.g., COBOL, CICS, DB2) and modern distributed/cloud architectures
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical change, including data migration, application refactoring, and integration with modern platforms
- Experience with vendor management and third-party modernization solutions
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience working at code level
- Hands-on experience with mainframe migration tools (e.g., Micro Focus, IBM z/OS Connect, AWS Mainframe Modernization)
- Familiarity with Teller or core banking platforms and their integration patterns
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, especially in high-visibility transformation programs
