As a Software Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate & Investment Bank Athena team, you will serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You will be responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives.

Athena is JPMorgan Chase's transformative cross-asset risk and trade management platform. It is the foundation on which innovative and efficient applications are built for a wide range of the firm's businesses, including sales, trading, operations, risk, and research. As part of our dynamic team, you will contribute to a wide range of exciting initiatives by leveraging the best open source, cloud (AWS), and internally developed technologies. As a member of our team, you will be exposed to different lines of business and technology groups across the firm.

Athena's core platform team is focused on keeping Athena modern, efficient, scalable, resilient, and secure. Whether you are adding new capabilities or improving existing features our team is dedicated to building a flexible and nimble platform that will continue providing JPMorgan Chase with a strategic advantage in today's volatile markets.

Job responsibilities

  • Execute software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Think outside of the box and deliver simple solutions for complex problems
  • Modernize Athena's proprietary batch scheduling system while maintaining the current infrastructure
  • Build secure, high-quality production code that executes critical functions across multiple lines of businesses
  • Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex systems within JPMC standards
  • Ensure systems can be efficiently operated via metrics, monitoring, and operational tools
  • Proactively identify problems and take ownership over architecting solutions
  • Interface directly with operations teams and developers to solve production issues
  • Communicate solutions, plans, and designs to management
  • Provide guidance on architecting solutions using the Athena platform
  • Embody our team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 3+ years applied experience
  • Professional experience in system design, development, testing, and operational stability
  • Experience in Linux
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++
  • Experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining production quality code
  • Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Strong communication skills and experience interfacing with clients
  • Experience in relational databases

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience working with distributed systems
  • Proficiency with one or more public cloud service providers
  • Deep Python knowledge
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies
  • Full stack engineering
