Senior Director of Software Engineering - Head of Data Catalog

As the Senior Director of Software Engineering - Head of Data Catalog in the Chief Data and Analytics Office (CDAO) Data Platforms team, you will lead the design and engineering of the firmwide data catalog across the Firm. You will build products that will enable users across the Firm to easily find and access data across the organization. You will understand how to best use open standards such as Iceberg and Parquet to support seamless integration across data catalogs and data platforms. The products you build will support key data governance and lineage initiatives, enabling users to understand what their data is and how it was produced. As a deeply technical engineering lead, you will look across the end-to-end journey of data scientists, ensuring that data catalogs are closely integrated with AI/ML platforms.

Job responsibilities

  • Technical engineering lead for Data Catalog integration across the Firm with experience implementing interoperability across multiple data platforms using standards such as Iceberg.
  • Provides leadership and high-level direction to teams while frequently overseeing employee populations across multiple platforms, divisions, and lines of business.
  • Lead the execution of critical data initiatives focused on enabling access to data, data governance, and entitlements, as well as building key data infrastructure using SaaS platforms and AWS.
  • Partner with the product organization to drive end to end business outcomes, ensuring that technical programs are aligned with strategic business goals.
  • Manages multiple stakeholders, complex projects, and large cross-product collaborations.
  • Influences peer leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, product, and technology teams.
  • Champions the firm's culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations to senior leadership, including the Operating Committee, to communicate program status, risks, and achievements.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and significant years applied experience. In addition, experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
  • Deep technical expertise managing large scale platforms - preferably with experience in data platforms and how these are integrated with AI/ML solutions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical solutions, vendor product knowledge, managing vendor relations, and implementing solutions
  • Ability to align technical solutions with regulatory and business objectives
  • Expertise in AWS technologies and cloud infrastructure, with experience in Kubernetes and other cloud platforms.
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
  • Advanced analytical reasoning skills, applying critical thinking and problem-solving techniques to break down business, technical, and operational objectives
  • Proven ability in leading through change, managing dependencies, and controlling change in high-pressure, shifting environments
  • Advanced expertise in stakeholder management, establishing productive relationships, and driving beneficial outcomes aligned with firm objectives
