Workplace Technology (WT) is an enablement organization with services across all infrastructure operations and architecture offerings. As part of GT, WT is responsible for the technology lifecycle and has different primary teams.

  • WT-Global Enablement Office is responsible for programming, planning and delivery of technology on real estate initiatives and events globally
  • WT-Remote Site Operations is responsible for the strategy and operational support of approximately 2,500 Main Equipment Rooms (MER), Co-Location and Telecommunication Rooms (TR) globally
  • WT-Cable Design and Engineering is responsible for the design and engineering of cable infrastructure, pathways, technology room layouts, etc. globally across all corporate and retail branch locations
  • WT-Compliance Reporting and Operational Support Services is responsible for driving the portfolio's risk, controls, access management, and internal audit agenda as well as coordinating and driving consistency related to contract administration, process engineering, and tools & automation initiatives
  • WT-End User Desk Side Deployment is responsible for all global end user desk deployments, as well as project and day 2 desktop moves/adds/changes (MAC's)
  • WT Executive Support, AV-Multimedia, and Production Events is responsible for the execution and oversight of high profile internal and external events & conferences, multimedia operations oversight, and the design/engineering/deployment of new conferencing and collaboration spaces
  • WT Strategic Initiatives is responsible for the oversight and management of key programs related to the new headquarters and the future of the workplace

This role reports to the Structured Cabling Design and Engineering Manager within the WT-Cable Design and Engineering team.

As such the Structured Cabling Design Engineer will focus on the design and build-out of new MER's, TR's, and user spaces with fully coordinated drawing sets amongst all trades (mechanical, electrical, security, audio visual, etc.) for corporate spaces. The design engineer will not only focus on new build-outs but also be responsible for smaller initiatives (existing space reconfigurations, infrastructure upgrades, new technology deployments, etc.). This position will include partnering with internal WT team members as well as individuals and groups (networking, voice, audio visual, security, real estate, operations & engineering, etc.) across the broader organization. This individual will be responsible for coordinating with the project management team(s) on the successful design, build, and hand-over to operations on all projects.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the design, build-out and operations of technology spaces (MER's, TR's, etc.) in a corporate environment. Additional skills such as vendor management, estimating, construction schedule sequencing & logic, and project management skills will be instrumental to this role. The candidate should also have experience with mechanical/electrical/plumbing/audio visual/security systems/Cellular DAS/2Way Radio/ Auxiliary Radio Communication System (ARCS) and components. In addition have an understanding, and well versed in smart building MEP/FA/FP system infrastructure and cross functional integration. This position requires a \"self-starter\" with a desire to learn and a passion for transformation as we fully on-board the corporate design, build-out, and operations within the WT organization. They will also require the skills to develop relationships at all levels of the WT organization and across all GT globally.

The structured cabling design engineer will need to be familiar with typical components (cabinets, racks, patch panels, jacks, cabling, patch cords, etc.) and manufacturers to successfully integrate design solutions. He/she will also need to ensure the adherence to the internal cabling standards/best practices as well as knowledge of the industry standards and associations (Telecommunication Industry Association - TIA) & (Building Industry Consulting Service International - BICSI) for all designs.

This individual will also be responsible for managing all deliverables throughout the design, build, and close-out process (bid, level, award, shop drawings, submittals, mock-ups, construction walk-thru's, reviewing test results, as-builds, etc.)

The role does require some travel domestically in the US - travel will vary based on specific projects and initiatives but is estimated at 20%. The location for the role could reside in the following locations:

NORTH AMERICA

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Solid and demonstrated experience in developing solutions aligned to business requirements that utilize the organization's standards, product sets, templates, systems and artifacts.
  • Communicate structured cabling standards to partners, stakeholders and lines of business. Participate in project-related interviews and discovery with lines of business and other technology design team members. Translate business requirements into functional technology requirements.
  • Must adhere to design standards and global design authority processes and procedures; computer skills and the use of various business applications and productivity tools such as AutoCAD, REVIT, BlueBeam, MS Project, MS Office, MS Visio are a must.
  • Ability to liaise with 3rd parties and provide representation in developing optimum solutions and ratifying designs.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to design, implement cabling infrastructure and ensure standards are aligned to the latest technology roadmap requirements.
  • Experience in hierarchical network design strategies (i.e. WAN, Core, Aggregation, etc.) is required.
  • Knowledge of Network Hardware (routers, switches, firewalls), Network protocols (TCP/IP), Wi-Fi, Audio Visual and Security infrastructure cabling systems.
  • Understanding of DAS Cellular, 2WAY Radio, and ARCS infrastructure cabling systems and connectivity.
  • Interfaces with general contractors, mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineering, architectural firms, telecom cabling sub-contractors, and AV/security integrators throughout the design and build process.
  • Oversee general contractors (GC) and telecom cabling contractor activities, providing direction to address site-specific construction issues.
  • Participate in all aspects of the infrastructure acceptance process. Provide support to technology project managers during adoption of the new infrastructure.
  • Participate in design coordination and construction meetings with the appropriate internal and external resources.
  • Knowledge of typical construction milestones, durations, and schedule logic related to technology and real estate driven build-outs.
  • Must provide quality assurance throughout the entire, end to end, project lifecycle. Participate in on-site walk-thru's and construction turn-over milestones related to shell, room, and production ready.
  • The ability to assemble professional documents based on existing templates, ability to provide accurate job descriptions with needed hours for completion. Must create budgets and estimates. Must understand project delivery lifecycle management, the concept of a detailed design, test and certification methodologies, risk assessment/mitigation and validation plans and procedures.
  • The ability to put together coordinated drawings sets (schematic/design development/bid/construction) and specification documents inclusive of floor layouts, outlet numbering, elevations, labelling details, wiring schematics, pull schedules, etc.
  • Must maintain and adhere to department polices in conjunction with the service delivery function (asset tracking, inventories, chargeback, documentation and the related systems, tools and processes).
  • The candidate must have excellent client interfacing skills, strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with all levels of management. Candidate should have experience operating with colleagues across different time zones with a flexible approach to working hours.
  • Varied experience in multi-vendor cabling, connecting hardware, cabinet, rack, power strip solutions.
  • Must be able to participate in, establish technical testing criteria to industry best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, related field and or technical training.
  • A minimum of ten years' experience preparing structured cabling designs - primary focus on user space, trading spaces, call center, security/AV operation centers and tenant fit-out.
  • Strong background in IT service delivery role (i.e. engineering support for projects).
  • Has participated in design and/or implementation of major IT projects.
  • Working competence with modifying designs to meet customer-driven requirements and to accommodate unique installation challenges.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, REVIT, BlueBeam, and the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook. Familiarity with Visio, SmartSheets, JIRA application is desirable.
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification is preferred.
  • Management experience desirable.
  • Conversant with the English language. Proficiency in other languages is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel - estimated at 20%.
