JOB Description

We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Specialized Midrange IBM i engineering team, with a strong emphasis on RPG development expertise. In this leadership role, you will leverage your RPG programming skills to drive innovation and modernize our application landscape. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance RPG applications, while fostering a developer-centric environment that encourages creativity and growth.

As a key member of the team, you will apply your depth of knowledge to all aspects of IBM i Infrastructure Support and the Software Development Lifecycle. You will collaborate with stakeholders to align on common goals and deliverables, ensuring the reliability and optimal performance of IBMi systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • RPG Development Expertise: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of RPG applications. Utilize advanced RPG programming techniques to create efficient, scalable, and high-performance solutions. Your expertise in RPG will be pivotal in driving innovation and modernizing our application landscape.
  • Developer Experience: Foster a developer-centric environment that encourages creativity and innovation. Mentor junior developers, providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and contribute to the team's success. Lead code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, promoting best practices in software development.
  • IBMi Engineering: Support and enhance IBMi systems, ensuring reliability, security, and optimal performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement engineering best practices and drive continuous improvement.
  • System Optimization: Analyze system performance and implement strategies to optimize resource utilization and improve application efficiency.
  • Project Management: Manage and prioritize development projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Communicate effectively with team members and management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Over 10 years of practical and technical experience with IBM i/iSeries, emphasizing RPG development and developer expertise.
  • In-depth understanding of IBM i integrated infrastructure architecture, including storage, network, database, and application components.
  • Proficiency in Incident/Problem/Change management processes and procedures.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting priority incidents, facilitating blameless post-mortems, and ensuring permanent resolution of incidents.
  • Experience working in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong ownership, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Expertise in Site Reliability Engineering, including designing, coding, testing, and delivering software to automate manual operational work (Ansible), AaaS.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language, with a focus on RPG, along with CL, Python, or Java.
  • Availability and active participation in team on-call and call-out support, including overnight hours and weekends, as required by support needs.
