Head of Wholesale Credit Risk Business Banking, Managing Director

As the Head of Wholesale Credit in Business Banking Risk, you will lead a credit team and manage a portfolio of approximately $20 billion in loan commitments (across approximately 30,000 clients). You will apply your broad understanding of the business environment, including current events, economic cycles, and regulatory frameworks, to deal structuring and portfolio management. You will have a deep understanding of commercial lending & risk appetite, drive strategic decisions and influence business priorities, oversee management of deteriorating credits, and maintain a robust control environment. Together, we will support the growth of the Business Banking portfolio while upholding prudent credit judgment and risk practices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of change and continuous development.
  • Approve credit transactions, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies in Business Banking and Wholesale Credit; provide effective credible challenge with the business and support recommendations to senior management.
  • Oversee portfolio management activities, focusing on early warning signs and risk ratings.
  • Manage credit analysis resources, facilitating timely and accurate credit decisions.
  • Supervise the Special Credits portfolio, driving effective management of workout scenarios and aiming to reduce charge-offs and enhance recoveries.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships, engaging in deal teams and customer meetings.
  • Cultivate deep strategic relationships with stakeholders across Sales, Credit Risk, Operations, Controls, Legal, Compliance, CCB Risk, and Wholesale Risk.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and implement strategic improvements within the Risk organization.
  • Lead research and development of new Risk Management strategies and tools.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 20 years of Wholesale/Commercial Credit experience, including complex deal structuring.
  • In-depth knowledge of credit risk assessment and regulatory requirements.
  • Seasoned leadership capacities and executive presence, with demonstrated success in managing large teams and the ability to coach others on articulating complex ideas and challenges succinctly.
  • Strong track record of flexibility and collaboration with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels, adept at navigating a highly matrixed organization.
  • High level of maturity and confidence to engage with senior management regularly, handling significant exposure with poise and professionalism.
  • Proactive self-starter with a history of initiating transformative change.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • MBA or advanced degree.
  • Direct client engagement experience.
