We are seeking an Uncrewed Systems Software Architect to lead software prototype development projects, guide development by 3rd parties on behalf of our sponsors, and lend software development process expertise to our sponsors as we help them modernize their software acquisition approach. As an Uncrewed Systems Software Architect you will...

  • Be responsible for performing systems engineering for the development of sponsor software architectures, performance metrics and evaluation criteria, unit tests, user feedback processes, and approval methods for software on uncrewed systems.
  • Guide sponsors on activities and documentation for implementing best practices in software development and testing, and applying them within the Government acquisition framework.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to 3rd parties as they develop autonomy and other uncrewed vehicle software using software systems engineering best practices.
  • Lead development teams at JHU/APL who are prototyping autonomy and uncrewed systems software for maritime applications.
  • Aid other software teams at JHU/APL in implementing software pipelines that minimize the effort required to integrate with other teams and transition cutting-edge capabilities.
  • Develop and lead periodic design reviews, as well as, technical reports and other briefing materials for presentation to all levels of staff and government agencies.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
  • Have 5+ years total relevant experience including 3+ years of experience working in software engineering
  • Are highly skilled in a breadth of software engineering and systems engineering processes.
  • Have experience effectively communicating with all levels of staff and clients.
  • Are willing and able to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have an M. S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Have 6 or more years of experience working with software development and/or systems engineering.
  • Have experience with uncrewed, autonomous, or robotic systems.
  • Have experience with DevSecOps practices, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines, automated software testing, and software Configuration Management.
  • Have experience with DOD acquisition processes and policies, especially DOD 5000.87 and previous DOD software acquisition paths.
  • Demonstrate superior initiative, energy, and organizational skills.
