2024 Internship - Environmental Health and Safety

Do you want to develop expertise across many Environmental Safety and Health discipline areas?

If you are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences/Engineering or other closely related degree and want to work in an exciting and collaborative environment, we want you to join our team.

We are seeking an intern in the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) group who will work with multiple EHS professional on a variety of technical projects across the Lab.

As a member of our team, you will

  • perform qualitative and quantitative exposure monitoring, particularly in chemical use areas,
  • develop auditing protocols that combine biological, chemical, radiological, and safety assessments,
  • conduct regular inspections of facilities throughout the Lab,
  • evaluate and update training material and written safety programs,
  • conduct IAQ assessments, and
  • provide EHS support to internal research programs through other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualification if you:

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences/Engineering, or a closely related field,
  • Have a solid understanding of safety, health, and environmental regulations and best practices,
  • Have outstanding problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills, and excellent writing/verbal communication and presentation skills,
  • To access APL's facilities and networks, US Citizenship or permanent resident status is required, subject to applicable laws.
