Senior Systems Engineer With Networking Experience

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer with experience in Networking to help support Enterprise IT across terrestrial data centers, and cloud-based deployments. This role will assist with operational support for new and existing services, as well as leading engineering and architecture programs to improve production systems. Candidates should be able to perform functions required to configure, support and tackle issues with large scale computing environments hosted in a co-lo facility and in Amazon Web Services (AWS). Primary support will be provided for wet and dry lab operations, and enterprise services. Secondary support will be provided for networking, including routers, switches, and firewalls.

This is a Hybrid role where the employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to the San Francisco office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2-3 days per week) 

What you’ll do:

  • Work a cross functional role between Systems and Network Engineering to ensure operational efficiencies and project deliverables are met in a timely manner.
  • Assure compliance to Invitae security standards and best practices.
  • Assist in development of specifications and standards to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Create documentation for standards, procedures, and business process flows.
  • Relentlessly look for ways to simplify and automate our environment.
  • Partner with the Information Security team to prevent and remediate security issues.
  • Participate in on-call responses to incidents including crafting fixes and improving systems.
  • Automate functions using PowerShell or other similar programming languages.
  • Role will require some on-call support, and ad-hoc support during operational outages.
  • Support VMware Deployments, Active Directory, (DNS, DHCP, RADIUS and other services).
  • Support and maintain various Fiber Channel and Ethernet based storage systems including Vast and Pure Storage.
  • Support physical hardware (Networks, Servers, Storage, Workstations,) in our San Francisco Headquarters. 

What you bring:

Must Have Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 1 year of experience. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Experience in VMware vSphere and cloud management technologies.
  • Experience with Cisco CLI (IOS, IOS-XE, NX-OS), JunOS, and PAN-OS.
  • Experience in configuring and troubleshooting routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, STP, VRRP).
  • Experience troubleshooting network issues in an environment with bare-metal, virtual, SAN/NAS, and an array of Bio-Medical laboratory systems.
  • Open to travel for work, approximately 5%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in supporting and maintaining Linux based systems.
  • Scripting or programming skills in Bash, Go, Python, or Java in a Linux environment.
  • Familiarity with configuration management/automation, (SaltStack (preferred), Ansible, Puppet, Chef), orchestration and infrastructure provisioning tools
  • Experience building, supporting, and maintaining genomics or other intensive pipeline workloads in a HPC environment
  • Experience deploying AWS environments via Terraform.
  • Ability to support physical hardware Co-located in Santa Clara, CA as needed. 

The salary range is an estimate and we are open to consider candidates with higher experience as well.

California Pay Range
$105,200$131,500 USD
