Job Description

As a member of the Services organization, the Senior Technical Writer ensures that development, delivery, and maintenance of technical Field Service documentation is consistent and compliant with product support needs and company guidelines. The Senior Technical Writer produces accurate, clearly presented, consistent documentation on time for product releases, and requires no day-to-day instruction or general instruction for new assignments. The Senior Technical writer should be highly skilled in the development and maintenance of technical documentation and should be able to independently recognize and define methods to improve the technical writing organization’s efficiency through automation & streamlining that can scale the organization’s functionality

This is an on-campus contract position with both office and laboratory working environments.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plans, writes, edits, and maintains Field Service documentation (i.e., Field Service procedures and technical bulletins) for medical device systems.
  • Complete documentation control steps to release final documentation. This includes Change Orders in the documentation control system.
  • Informs and adheres to policies, procedures, and quality documents. Collaborates with project team members to share knowledge and best practices.
  • Uses skills as an experienced technical communication professional with understanding of industry best practices and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Serves a liaison between Services and Engineering to align best practices, shared resources and support.

Skill/Job Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years’ technical writing experience in a hardware or engineering environment, including documentation for various technical audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline, professional writing, or equivalent preferred.
  • Recent Complex Hardware writing experience.
  • Experience in minimalist, topic-based writing style.
  • Analytical ability to swiftly grasp and effectively communicate complex scientific and engineering concepts for intended audiences.
  • Highly skilled with DITA XML authoring tools. IXIA CCMS highly desired.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills with ability to participate in project discussions and manage deliverables for multiple projects under tight deadlines, set priorities, and manage time effectively.
  • Understanding of mechanical/hardware concepts and complex devices.
  • Strong writing and grammar skills.
  • Previous experience with medical devices desirable
  • Experience with current versions of standard authoring tools, including Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator and Photoshop; Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Professional references and writing examples expected
