Job Description
Primary Function of the Position:
As a member of the manufacturing engineering team, you will work in a dynamic, fast paced, and challenging
environment. You will be responsible for supporting production of DaVinci Surgical Robotic systems by applyinyour knowledge of system hardware, software, and electromechanical assemblies to perform failure analysis of non-conforming material. Your goal will be to improve the reliability and manufacturing yield of these surgical systems.
Essential Job Duties
This position is highly collaborative, and strong communication and presentation skills will provide visibility
amongst the engineering, production, and management teams. Your primary responsibilities will include:
• Leading cross-functional engineering teams to address manufacturing challenges.
• Identifying emerging manufacturing issues using Statistical Process Controls (SPC).
• Containment of non-conforming or suspect materials.
• Performing failure analysis on non-conforming electrical and electromechanical assemblies utilizing design
documentation, manufacturing test data, software tools, and a variety of lab / bench equipment.
• Formulating and validating corrective actions with cross-functional teams.
• Implementing preventive measures to avoid recurrence of identified issues.
Additionally, you will be responsible for improvements on the manufacturing line, including:
• Managing manufacturing qualifications, deviations, and part cut-ins.

• Updating manufacturing process instructions and test specifications.
Through these processes, you will drive improvements in yield, reliability, serviceability, manufacturability,
test ability, capacity, and cost.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
• Strong Troubleshooting mind set - an ability to methodically break down a system or process into
subparts to identify failures and troubleshoot to a component level. Familiarity with 8D problem solving,
Fishbone Diagraming, and the Five Whys.
• A strong sense of curiosity and a willingness to deeply explore issues.
• Commitment to organized project/task tracking and knowledge sharing using tools such as JIRA and
Confluence.
• Proven proficiency with electrical engineering lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers,
power supplies, and multimeters.
• Ability to read electronic schematics, assembly, and fabrication drawings
Required Education and Training
• BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering/Science, or equivalent.

Preferred Skills and Experience
• Self-starter attitude and comfort in a hands-on environment, demonstrating the ability to collaborate with
other engineers to influence product and process design for improved reliability.
• Experience with prototyping using microcontrollers.
• Proficiency in Matlab and/or Python.
• Familiarity with process statistics and SPC.
• Knowledge of different motor and encoder topologies.
• Understanding of digital communication protocols, including SPI and I2C.
