Job Description - Solution Architect (IT/OT)

Role Summary
Lead the design and integration of technology solutions across the mining value chain, bridging Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT). Ensure scalable, secure, and aligned solutions for mining operations, processing plants, geoscience systems, and safety-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop end-to-end solution architectures for mining operations and enterprise systems.
  • Define target and current state architecture models for hybrid cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Design and oversee integration of OT systems (SCADA, DCS, MES, PI Systems) with IT platforms.
  • Ensure interoperability across ERP, HSE, and geoscience applications.
  • Align solutions with ISA-95, IEC 62443, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to predictive analytics and digital twins.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams; mentor junior architects.
Required Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of mining processes (open-pit, underground, materials handling, mineral processing).
  • Expertise in OT platforms: Rockwell, Siemens, Yokogawa, Honeywell, AVEVA, OSIsoft PI.
  • Familiarity with geoscience tools (Leapfrog, Deswik), processing tools (Aspen Tech, METSIM), HSE systems.
  • Proficiency in cloud/on-prem architecture (Azure, AWS, Oracle Cloud) and integration. Platforms (Boomi, MuleSoft).
  • Knowledge of industrial protocols (OPC-UA, Modbus, MQTT).
  • Experience with enterprise architecture tools (ArchiMate, Sparx EA, LeanIX).
  • Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity principles.
  • Architecture compliance with ISA-95 and IEC 62443.
  • Successful integration of OT/IT systems across mining operations.
  • Improved operational efficiency and safety through technology adoption.
  • Timely delivery of architecture documentation and governance milestones.

Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems.
12-15+ years in architecture, systems design, or technology delivery in mining or heavy industry.

Preferred Attributes
  • Strategic thinker with ability to align technology to business goals.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong documentation and presentation capabilities.
Certifications
TOGAF, AWS/Azure Architect, ISA/IEC 62443, PMP (preferred).
Working Conditions
Work across remote mining sites and corporate offices. Occasional travel to open-pit and underground operations. Adherence to site safety protocols and MSMS.
